Nymeria!!!

Heart breaking

It was such a sweet scene for them to see each other again. And Arya realizes that her dire wolf has a different life now.

reply

What is the message there? She holds a grudge because Arya sent her away? She's too into the whole pack scene that she can't leave them? Or did Arya really become no one at the House of Black and White?

reply

The message is that Nymeria, just like Arya, is not meant for domestication.

Back in S-1 when Ned was talking to her telling her that she could wear fine dresses and meet fine Lords and Ladys Arya told him "That's not me."

To Nymeria she said "That's not you."

reply

Nymeria was huge. Was kind of heartbreaking, but it's like she said, it's not you. This is kind of like when Ned was telling Ayra in S1 that she would be a princess and all dressed up, and Ayra said, that's not me.

Great scene though.

Unless I'm going deaf, I believe that, as Nymeria departed, Arya said something like, "Then I will follow you." I don't think it's over between the girl and her Direwolf. Remember, it's been years since they've seen each other. Nymeria has had plenty of time to become ferile. It doesn't mean that the bond between she and Arya can't be revived.

And the CGI Direwolf was AMAZING! Compare it to the wolves in, say, Twilight. It's like comparing Wolfgang Puck's pasta to Spaghetti-O's.

Arya said after Nymeria left "That's not you." Like Taemmpy wrote, it was a recall of the Ned/Arya scene from Season 1 where she said "That's not me."

It was a great scene. It was clear the direwolf still loved Arya. It reminded me of the Jack London story "Call of the Wild."

Wow, taeempy, that was such a good catch on your part. I remember that scene between Arya and Ned, but I never would have thought of those two scenes being connected.

reply

I'm sure Nymeria will show up again, perhaps shortly after the White Walkers cross into the southern kingdoms and all seems lost...

reply

Wow...I started a thread that stayed on topic...and civil...huh? Thanks to taeempy for remembering that lovely scene from season 1, I was racking my brain trying to remember why "it's not you" was gutting me like a fish...Ned and Arya...some of my favorite interactions throughout season one were betwixt the two. And now Arya heading north...the reunion of her and Jon should be quite touching!

reply

I can't wait either as Jon and Arya were very close. Unfortunately it seems they're going to miss each other as Jon will be in Dragonstone when Arya finally returns. Although I do like the idea of splitting up Arya's reunion with Sansa and then Jon.

reply

I was also slightly concerned for a second that Nymeria might attack her. One of the good things about GRRM's blood thirst is that it never feels as though any character is 100% safe.
