I haven’t seen him in anything other than Rocky V, so maybe he was a terrible actor as he aged, but I thought he did a really good job in V. I’m wondering why he didn’t reprise his role as Rocky’s son, he was clearly still acting, though not often.

sly divorce sage mother and marry new woman in 90s. sage have little relationship with sly's wife or his step sisters. he was semi-estrange from father but reports say he still loved his father very a lot.
but yes this film would be better with sage but there is too much complication between sly and sage for that to works.
i wish sage become actor after rocky 5. great performance in film. he inherit his dad acting genes.
Supposedly he turned down the role because he was busy making his own movie at the time.
And on another note, of course his second born son Seargeoh (the son he pretends he doesn't have), the one who played the newborn Rocky Jr. in Rocky II, is mentally handicapped so he was not able to play in anything.
He died in 2012.

i am not surprise to see you say that sage is nice man. sage have good father. sly is nice man, warm man (this always come through in his performance when i see him in film) so sage get sly's characteristic.
problem sage have is that he born in 1976 and this when rocky come out in cinema so sly have no time to be with son as he is now superstar getting 20 million every film. sage is raise by his mother while father works and this affect sage.
that is why sage performance in rocky 5 so great. when he get angry and emo at rocky, he mean it because that is what he feel irl.
sage give one of the great performance from any kid actor in rocky 5. im sure he have talent and drive but the opportunity was no there. sly put sage in other underrate great film - daylight. so he try at least.
but opportunity not there. remember plenty opportunity for shit actor!! like josh hartnett, freddie prince loser or jonah hill, they get opportunity because public have thirst for shit actor! sage have more talent in his buttcheek than these haxxors but they get opportunity and he dont
