Is this actually supposed to be a sequel to Terminator 3?

Because it feels absolutely nothing like T3 or the first two while I’m at it.

I genuinely think that they weren't sure, and didn't quite think it through. There's enough in it to consider that it's entirely an AU. I was about to write out to someone my idea of the different terminator continuities that exist, and I realized I never quite decided where to play Salvation.

Yes. The opening text mentioned the world ending in 2003, which is when Terminator 3 took place. The character Kate Brewster from T3 also returns, this time played by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Different directors have different styles, and this was supposed to feel more like a war movie, that’s why it felt different from previous movies.

It didn't say it ended in 2003, it said early 21st century. T3 doesn't take place in 2003 either, it's a little later than that.

Looking back, you're right. T3 takes place in 2004, a year after the movie was released, while T4 did say "In the early 21st Century" instead of "in 2003", so my bad.

That said, T4 is still a sequel to T3. Judgement day happened in the early 21st Century as shown in T3, and Kate Brewster from T3 came back in T4. It wasn't until Genesis and Dark Fate where each new movie ignored everything but the first two movies.

To be fair T2 felt absolutely nothing like The Terminator either.

Of course this was a sequel to T3. I guess I'm one of the few who has this movie as a top 3 in the franchise along with Geneysis and Dark Fate
