Cast your vote for next Doctor.

Richard Ayoade - perfectly quirky.

I think Tom Rosenthal (Friday Night Dinner) would be a good Doctor.

Sylvester McCoy. A radical choice but I always thought he didn't get a fair chance when he ascended to role in the dying days of it's first iteration.

reply

Joke answer would be Peter Cook because they've got about as much chance of resurrecting him as they do my interest in the series.

They would have to de-canonize the Chibnall/Whittaker era and apologize before I'd be back on board.

If they did that, then I suppose Robert Carlyle would be a decent choice.

reply

I agree with Robert Carlyle but why should it matter if they de-canonize stuff.

I'm not a fan of the timeless child although I think it may turn out not to be the doctor. But if they keep it as the doctor it will probably be ignored in the future anyways. I mean remember the doctor being half human?

reply

Because it ruins the character of the Doctor forever. And it's not just JJ Abrams* level bad writing, it makes a mockery of decades of continuity and it's done deliberately and maliciously.

The William Hartnell Doctor is no longer the first of his kind, he's just one of the latest of thousands (or hundreds of thousands? millions?). The Doctor isn't even Gallifreyan anymore, but is now a special "chosen one" and we're left with yet another boring Mary Sue.

I'd like to believe it's leading towards a "Gotcha!" moment by the writers, but I've seen the vandalization of too many pop culture franchises to think otherwise.

*Although it is that. A magical being showing up "for reasons" with no concrete explanation would be typical JJ.

The thing is I agree but I feel whoever takes over when Chibnal leaves will just ignore it. But no one will ever apologise for it
