People say this movie put Lohan on the map ...

It was really Freaky Friday imo. That movie drew better reviews, did better at the box office. Mean Girls just built on the success of Freaky Friday. Freaky Friday is what pushed Lohan to a big name

I think Mean Girls has been Lindsays most sucessfull movie.
But I also enjoyed Freaky Friday and confessions of a high school queen.

I would say it was THE PARENT TRAP, her first feature film, that first got her noticed. The movie was a hit at the box office and was later popular on home video/DVD. Also, Lohan received good notices from critics for her dual roles. However, it was FREAKY FRIDAY that turned her into a bona fide movie star. I agree that MEAN GIRLS was just another notch on Lohan's belt at the time. She really had a good run in the early 2000s.

The original director of Juno (Brad Silberling) wanted her to be the star.

Freaky Friday was a hit, but by the time of Mean Girls she had, eh, "matured" and people definitely took notice. Not to mention, it was a great film with tons of talented people versus a film that had already been done to death by that point.

Exactly, and Mean Girls developed a cult following, also. What has become of Freaky Friday (2003) since its' release? It seems very much forgotten about.

reply

Maybe but I think Mean Girls had a further reach to a wider audience.

She was on the map since the Parent Trap she was an instant star. Mean Girls was when she peaked.

Freaky Friday was kid friendly so yeah it made that family funny money. My sister was around 10 or 11 when we got it on DVD, and we watched it pretty often. One of the only DVDs we had, along with Holes. Like Holes, it was Disney popular.

Mean Girls, on the other hand, had the preteen, teen, and even adult crowd, and heck kid crowd too if we're talking 8-10 years old. Because of that, it has a more lasting legacy, like another poster commented.
