So was the ending one big coincidence?

Unless there's something that I missed in the plot...was the ending with the theater massacre one big coincidence?

I understand that Shosanna wanted to set fire to the theater on the night of the Nazi propaganda film, concluding in the death of everyone in the theater, and hence...getting her revenge against the regime.

But what I don't understand is, was her plan linked to what The Inglorious Bastards wanted to accomplish? Were they working together? I mean, obviously, their plan to eliminate Nazis, combined with the fire in the theater, clearly had a climatic end-result. Was all of this simply a coincidence?

That was Bridgette Von Hammersmark. Coinidentally she is played by the woman who was the love interest in National Treasure.

that scene was really good. i have troubles with that movie, but i have to admit it was creative and very well done, i rate it excellent ... though I hate to give Tarentino a star since i find him pretty detestable, not to mention ugly.

Your question brings up another more interesting question if you don’t mind bearing with me for a bit. We know that the Basterds were well known by the German army heirachy as well as the enlisted men, your basic foot soldiers. I’m wondering if the movie is meant to imply that they were famous/infamous among the civilian population also. If so then Shosanna would definitely know who they were.

But the film drops the ball on that subject. She doesn’t discuss the Basterds with Marcel, so it’s not known if she knew who they were or what she may have thought of them. Gotta admit it would’ve been interesting if the subject of Aldo & his boys were brought up in that scene where she was at the table with everyone. Blown opportunity I say.

It is also funny how she didn't get her revenge on the guy responsible for her family's death but Aldo sort of does that for her without even knowing it.

I always wonder how the 5th Chapter would've happened IF all three Basterds were escorting Hammersmark to the film premiere. For sure Landa would recognize both Stiglitz and Wicki .. would he still try to cut the same deal as he did with Aldo?
