The movie is awful and nostalgia can't even save it, but...

As much as I hate this movie, and I hated it as a child and as an adult, Jim Carey is incredible in it. What a fantastic actor, actually an incredible actor considering he improved much of the lines in the film. It's an awful film. a cheesy film and a tedious film but Jim gave a solid performance.

I was 18 when I saw it in theaters and got a few chuckles from it but as I got older it made me realize how terrible this movie is. The overloaded plot sucks, Jim Carrey is more obnoxious than funny, and the who's of whoville look like ratfaced mutants. I'll watch the classic 60s cartoon instead.

I disagree. I like this movie and find it hilarious. I also like the whos being too materialistic and learning themselves through Cindy Lou that there is more to Christmas than that. Though it's left ambiguous if Mayor Augustis learns it.

I find Jim Carey the reason this version sucks.

Not saying it would have been a great film if someone else did it, but it would be clearly better.

I loved Carey back when he started with In Living Color, but while he was always skirting the over-the-top back then, he's blown way past that now and makes everything distracting.

Jimbo surely had fallen deeply in love with himself by this point in his career. His line in Batman and Robin really summarized him: “Was that over the top? I can never tell.” He was occasionally funny, but he was never witty.

Strong words but Carrey has done some magical things over the years. I think he fit the Grinch character pretty well but not sure if this movie is that good . It’s just an ok Christmas movie

you wanted a more subtle performance? that wouldn't have worked at all. it's a highly stylized picture.
