Granted, the written dialogue is horrible, but I think that we all wish he had been in these films instead of Titanic.
For those of you who don't know, he turned down the role because he didn't want to be in another blockbuster after Titanic.
DiCaprio would have faced the same problem that Christiansen did - George Lucas is known to be "the worst actor's director alive".
DeCaprio is a good actor (not IMHO great), but can he be good when he gets nothing from his director but "Talk faster" or something? Really, Lucas doesn't work with his actors the way most directors do, and young actors can find themselves as lost as Natalie Portman in this film. I suspect DiCaprio would have floundered if he'd taken the role.

shareJohnathan Brandis would’ve made the best Anakin Skywalker. He was a much better actor than Hayden and was actually much like Anakin in real life, full of confusion and darkness, so much so that he eventually took his own life. Apparently it was down to him and Hayden but Hayden edged him out. I can’t see how.
