A sequel regarding Rose would have been cool

I wonder if she ever let her parents know she survived? In addition who did she marry, and was he well to do?

reply

Well Kate Winslet is still around. They should definitely make a sequel. I want to know what happened to mean old Ruth too.

reply

Fuck you and sequels.

reply

The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather II were excellent sequels. Rocky 2 was also pretty great and let’s not forget The Temple Of Doom which bordered on horror but still maintained that high flying sense of adventure from the previous film.

Sequels can often be terrific.

Agree, good examples Sho. I have no particular issues with sequels (although many are just money grabs) and indeed, movies like GFII, Star Wars, Indy, Back to the Future, etc. are some of my favorites.

As I posted below, I think a story of Rose could be great cinema as long as they didn't try to milk the tie in to Titanic too closely. A good story is a good story and Rose lived a pretty interesting life from what we know about her.

reply

Yes they can. Don't forget about Grease 2 and Caddyshack 2

reply

All kidding aside, I can get through Grease 2. Caddyshack 2 is tortuous.

reply

All kidding aside, I can do without both

reply

REVERSE THEM FOR ME...CADDYSHACK 2 IS DUMB BUT WATCHABLE...GREASE 2 IS TORTURE OF THE HIGHEST ORDER THAT NOT EVEN MICHELLE PFEIFFER CAN LESSEN.

reply

I never saw the first GREASE. I was only 11 when it came out. I plan to eventually. The sequel was dull and lame.

reply

I HATE MUSICALS...I LOVE GREASE...CAN'T EXPLAIN IT.

reply

I am 50/50, I guess it counts on my mood.

reply

MY DAUGHTER'S FAVORITE FILM IS THE GREATEST SHOWMAN...SO I HAVE TO SEE THEM ALL REGARDLESS OF MY OPINION.

reply

Anything CAN happen.
But the ratio of great sequels / insults to the original is smaller than the ratio of black nazi / white nazi.

And it only got worse in the past years, with all these cash grabs based on great shows or films that add nothing whatsoever to the original. The sequels you mentioned are all from the 80s, add to that list T2 and Mad Max.
I cannot think of a more definitively closed story as the one in Titanic: the ship is gone, the guy is dead, the bitch we already know what she will do after killing him.
What else would the op like to see, what happens to Andy Dufresne after he escapes Shawshank?

reply

I can understand wanting "more" of something -- in this case a film -- that was so enjoyable.

But going from the all-time blockbuster status of this film to an otherwise uneventful follow-up featuring Rose would land with a thud.

Maybe as a Lifetime film.

I think that's actually a brilliant idea, but I wouldn't tie it to Titanic. A few references to the sinking sure but a good quality script could make a movie with a great stand alone story.

Those photos next to her as she slept/died showed her living a full and varied life, particularly for a woman of her times. Title? How about simply "Rose"

reply

LIKE THE SEQUEL TO GONE WITH THE WIND.

I don't think it would be the same thing. Scarlett O'Hara was the main focus of GWTW, while Rose, Jack, Cal, et al were tack-ons to the tragic and true and historic sinking of the best known ocean liner in history. Heck, a story just about Cal could be fascinating if done correctly.

A story about Rose Dawson would follow her, and as long as they didn't try to tie in *too* much Titanic reference, could stand on its own IMO. This all presupposes that someone could write a unique and fascinating story and not just make it a pure money grab. Yes, I realize that's asking a lot.

reply

I WOULD WATCH THAT MOVIE...ROSE WOULD BE A GOOD TITLE TOO...I AGREE.

reply

I agree, either do one on her life prior to boarding the Titanic, or after the tragedy. I can see Rose as a flapper living it up in jazz clubs and speakeasies. Maybe she befriended silent movie stars.
