Why do people like this movie?

I just watched this movie today for the 5th time in my life, and I still have no idea what it is that made people like this awful film.

Why did you watch it 5 times then.

I have seen it at least 2 times a year since it came out, One of my all time favorite movies.

reply

Because I know that there is an IMDB user who tried to watch one of the Tomb Raider movies 5 times, but fell asleep while trying to watch it every single time. Even though I do not agree with his review, I just thought I might put it out there.

Personally, I love post-apocalyptic settings and the idea of one man being able to repair the world, even inadvertently, just through his infectious spirit.

That, and the fact it's so hilariously bad in every regard.

that's it, the setting, and the realism that one man can make a difference and inspire others, even if he started it as a con

I'm guessing troll thread. Doubtful anyone watches a bad movie 5 times. Although I have watched Manos: Hands of Fate twice, but that's a bad movie that's unintentionally hilarious. Why waste 5 x 3 hours of your life on something that's bad?

I actually watched it for the first time today. My brother recommended it, and I figure I should watch it since I like the post apocalyptic genre (I watched A Boy and His Dog last year- although that wasn't particularly good, but any Fallout fan should watch it). It never really interested me enough until now. It was good, but not great. I felt it was missing something. I'm not exactly sure what. But I do feel it needed better actors to help some of the cheesier lines in the movie seem less cheesy. I do like the themes of hope though. Some scenes were emotionally moving for me, mainly the themes of hope as the young riders fallow in his and Ford's footsteps. And his mule (or was it a donkey?) getting killed angered me, so that was emotional for me.

I really enjoyed the themes of hope and rebuilding. You could say it was a post apocalyptic film with a more positive message (most are very negative). I just wish it had a little better acting, and maybe a better fight scene at the end.

I'm not a fan of it much at all, but I can kind of see its appeal. Despite being a post-apocalyptic movie, it has that nineties sentimentalism and jingoistic vibe.

reply

We need more jingoism in our films in the 2020s.

reply

They don't.

it's the most American movie ever made,
escaping into its world can help us in these trying times
