I know that's not the plan as we hear it. But sometimes I wonder, given that Stu complains about Billy stabbing him too deep, and Billy clearly not giving a shit. And Mrs. Loomis and Jill both betrayed their partners. I wonder if Billy really intended to kill Stu to keep his secret perfectly safe, and play up a sole survivor status. Then again, Roman does later say he told Billy to find a partner to sell out in case they were caught, which argues for letting Stu live.

No, but that would have definitely been a smarter plan than trying to frame Neil for everything. I mean, when you think about it, it's so easy to link everything back to Stu: he had a personal connection to Casey, it's plausible that he would target Himbry since a lot of teenagers hate their principal, all the other victims from Tatum on down would have happened at his house while his parents were out of town, Neil's car is stranded not far from Stu's house (making it look like he might have abducted him and tried to frame him for the murders), etc.

Yeah you're right and there is no honor among criminals anyways so he wouldn't really care if Stu died.

No question he planned to kill him. He outlived his usefulness. I just don't understand why the two of them started stabbing each other before Sydney and her father were disposed of.

Because Billy was a narcissist and couldn't finish his plan before everyone knew everything about why. Had he gotten around to killing Stu he probably would've said something on the nose like "Did you really think I'd let you live? You're not useful anymore. I can keep the secret better by myself"

I don't think Billy necessarily intended on killing Stu because he was probably more useful to him alive than dead. Stu was fully on board with Billy's plans and had no motive, unlike some others. Letting Stu live would also probably help validate Billy's story of Neil being the killer, since he has a witness.
