When Ourumov shot 006...

As much as I enjoy the movie, this part confuses me. When Ourmov shoots Alec in the chemical factory, we assume that 006 is dead (obviously he is not). At first I thought Ourumov shot him with a blank, but he later shoots the solider who fires at Bond. Did Ourumov shot Alec in the shoulder? How did they pull this off to convince Bond 006 was actually dead?

reply

He may have swapped out guns in between shots.

reply

Load in one blank, chamber the round. Then load the rest of the magazine with live ammo.

reply

A blank would be too weak to operate the gun. He would have had to chamber the next round manually. Unless the gun was modified to fire only blanks.

And I guess that means the nervous soldier's death was faked as well, complete with a squib detonation.

reply

He certainly had time to chamber the next round between shooting Alec and shooting the guard.

The way the guard goes down couldn't have been planned; he's killed for disobeying orders and shooting at Bond/the barrels.

reply

I don't know.

This question has been asked many times, and nobody has ever been able to provide a logical answer. It makes no sense, and this film sucks. That's all.

reply

This is a movie that features a ballpoint grenade, what's so far-fetched about a gun with which he can first shoot a blank and then real bullets?

reply

The thing is, the more you think about this plot point, the more plot holes there are that reveal themselves. There was plenty of time of defuse the bombs as Bond is running away (006 is alive after all, right?) and yet he lets them go off anyway. The six minute, three minute thing made no sense at all. The whole movie makes no sense and that's why it's one of my least favourites. 006 is an awful character whose motivations and actions make no sense.

Seems pretty obvious why they would want Bond to believe they were actually chasing him.

reply

Read my next post, I realized that they probably weren't part of the operation, they didn't know Ouromov was crooked. It makes sense that they would chase him and not know anything about Alec and Oromov's plan. They were legitimately trying to kill Bond.

reply

The soldiers weren't in on it. You can see Ourumov even trying to stop them from killing him.

reply

Did they want to defuse the bombs? Wasn't the point to have MI6 believe Trevelyan was dead? Defusing the bombs would defeat that purpose.

I'm already aware you hate the movie, so it's kind of pointless discussing whether Trevelyan was an awful character or not.

reply

Actually now that I think about it I don't think that this was a plot hole, Alec wanted the bombs to go off so Bond and M would definitely think he was dead, just because he reset the timers he thought he had 3 more minutes to get out which he didn't and therefore his face got all f-cked up. And yes Oromov and Alec blew up a Russian facility, they didn't care about the Russians, they were betraying them also. And the guys who chased Bond I'm guessing weren't part of the operation. This movie does have some problems but I don't think this is one of them.

reply

Yes, that's exactly the reason.

reply

It didn't occur to him that he should quickly take a look at the timer in big bright red numbers and then push the button to adjust the amount of time? Or just defuse it because Bond probably would have expected someone to defuse it anyways and probably wasn't even thinking about the time anymore. It just makes no sense.

Also, he came out pretty much unscathed from the explosion. Just some minor scarring which is not at all consistent with the severity of the explosion.

reply

Lets just agree its a plot hole and move on. Makes things easier than to try and over think a situation
