Why did Scotty in the Star Trek: TNG episode "Relics" say that Kirk is leading a rescue mission for him?

It's possible that Scotty was disoriented after spending years in that loop.

One thing you have to learn about Star Trek and it's several movies and HUNDREDS of episodes is the DISCONTINUITY IN CANON, so since "Relics" was written a few years before "Generations", there are bound to be some (many) oversights.

We Trekkies just either live with it or make up explanations to explain away the plotholes! :)

Yeah I thought of that too. Simple explanation is that Generations hadn't been written yet and they just retconned this later. Didn't the Unification episodes with Spock also say that Spock was responsible for sending Kirk on the mission where he was killed. In this movie, we see Kirk wasn't on a mission when he was killed. He was just touring the new Enterprise at it's unveiling ceremony and was along for the ride.

Simply put. Bad Retcon.

Bc Spock (and Bones) was supposed to be in opening of Generations instead of Scotty/Chekov
