Why did Val Kilmer do this movie?

Great movie don't get me wrong, but why on earth did he want to do the role he was given? you don't even see his face once, and he's only in 2 scenes if i remember. Its probably the weirdest role he's ever done, in that you don't see his face and he's barely in 2 scenes as like some imaginary Elvis mentor.

I mean you could've gotten anyone to do that role.

maybe he did it just for fun, probly only took an hour to film

Both True Romance and The Doors share the same casting team...

Directors: Risa Bramon Garcia and Billy Hopkins.
Associates: Suzanne Smith and Mary Vernieu.

And yet, one of the coolest roles in a film. The imagined Elvis was a really huge part of the film and understanding Slater's character. It's not about screen time or visibility even. It's about impact. Very few people who have seen this film ever forget when Elvis appears. You don't expect it to happen and it surprises you. Like Chief speaking at the end of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. It's the impact, not the screen time/amount of dialogue.

I guess it's one of those favors kind of thing. I didn't know he was in it until I saw his name in the credits.

He had just completed The Real McCoy & Tombstone and had an opening until he stared shooting Wings of Courage & Batman. He accepted at the request of TC.
