Your Favorite Letterman Moment?

what's your favorite or best memories you have of the legend of late night? ... Not really a moment but, always enjoyed the president Bush Bloopers segment, forgot the exact name.

Also whenever Jack Hannah stopped by.. like when he got stuck on top of the camel

My personal favorite moment was comedian Norm MacDonald doing one of the funniest sets I've ever seen, and then breaking down into semi-tears as he said thank you and goodbye to Dave on one of his final shows.

I don't know how to post links to videos on this site, or I'd link the youtube video.

Either a Norm MacDonald appearance or Stupid Pet Tricks.

For me, it's any Norm MacDonald appearance. But my second choice would be Madonna cursing up a storm and making him squirm the entire time. Third might be Farrah Fawcett spacing out.

I was a big fan of his NBC show...a bit less of the CBS one. People have mentioned his segments with Norm Macdonald and I totally agree...also have to mention when Don Rickles was a guest...absolutely classic stuff.

I just thought that at 12:30 Dave was more relaxed and laid back...at 11:30 without The Tonight Show found him becoming increasing cynical and overtly political...not at first of course, I mean over time.

reply

Exactly my feelings regarding David Letterman also. I do think NBC really did Letterman dirty in not giving him "The Tonight Show" spot...but I eventually stopped watching his CBS show, because I just didn't think it was nearly as good as his NBC show.

No mentions of Chris Elliott or Larry “Bud” Melman yet? This must be rectified. The standout characters of the former that come to mind are the strangely hostile “guy under the seats” and his slovenly Marlon Brando.

So many of their great bits were on the NBC show (Late Night with David Letterman). Here is one of my favorite Chris Elliott bits, his imitation of Jay Leno

That was great. And pretty sure when Dave moved to CBS was when the show became less of a must-see for me. Actually I’ve never been a regular fan/viewer of any TV talk show other [than] Late Night in the 80s. Used to tape it when unable to view live.

And just noticed I’ve been subscribed to that YT channel forever.

I LOVED Jay Leno's appearances, when they were still buds.

I loved Larry "Bud" Melman (Calvert DeForrest)! My sister got to meet him when she worked at Oklahoma State in the mid-1980s. I think the bit where he's greeting people at the train station is one of the funniest things I've ever seen! 😃 That's probably my favorite "Letterman moment" also.

If you meant https://youtu.be/iGsWjUMJGOo that was actually at the Port Authority bus terminal not too far from Grand Central train station. Just watched it for possibly the first time since I saw it live and my abs and cheeks hurt from laughter. That mic interview technique. Pure gold, thanks!

reply

That's the one! 😃 Back then, on his NBC show, David Letterman didn't seem to crack up all that often, but he's really laughing here. Thank you for posting that...yes, it was a Bus Terminal and not a Train Station, my mistake.

A trifling difference to anyone, but alas I am a New Yorker and can’t help myself...

The way that baby just dangled from his mother’s arms staring at the mic passing just overhead gets me.

Crispin Glover around when River's Edge came out.

Damn, you beat me to it LOL 😂😂😂😂

He can kick. Watched that live. Legendary status: confirmed.

This one is quite memorable lol.
