Anyone else felt sorry for the black guy?

He seemed like a really good dude, really wanted to help them. Basically destroyed his life’s work to save people. And he had a wife and kid.

His death was pretty sad

Yes. He had a great character who was unaware of the horror of his creation.

Unlike a lot of secondary characters, we learned a lot about Dyson. He was a loving husband and father. He is a workaholic who'd positive tunnel vision blinded him of the risks of his creation. He actively sacrificed his life's work and life to save humanity. He ended up being killed by the system that he lovingly worked to create.

Dr. Frankenstein in a nutshell without the raving or emotional neglect.

He died with honor!!!

Like I said in the other thread it has long bothered me how this character was handled despite how much I loved the movie. It would have been more compassionate & less devastating to his family had Sarah just killed him outright like she originally planned because she just ends up getting him killed anyway & destroys his reputation in the process, further traumatizing his family. While the audience knows he "died a hero", in universe he died a criminal/terrorist, leaving behind a needlessly widowed wife and son to live with that.

Shits bigger than one family's anguish.

Sure but that doesn't make the ramifications any less tragic and unnecessary. Frankly Dyson would have been better off if they "pretended" to be holding him hostage & forcing him to participate under duress rather than presenting him as a willing accomplice. The plan likely would have worked even better if the cops were led to believe they were dealing with a hostage situation. They wouldn't have charged in, shooting first and asking questions later the way they did in the movie. The job still gets done but Dyson lives & likely isn't sent to prison .
