who would play annie in a remake?

melissa mccarthy

I think McCarthy would do well but I also think it would be too close to what Bates was able to accomplish and would come off as falling short, she looks too similar and because of that, we the audience would just see McCarthy emulating Bates, and that never works out well in film, especially in remakes.
I think for the sake of variety, Catherine Keener would be more suited to making the character her own and could do just as well as Bates did, given the writing was competently done.

She was the first I thought of also! (McCarthy.)

CATE BLANCHETT

reply

not even close.

reply

I WOULD PREFER A NEW VERSION...NOT A LOCAL THEATER PRODUCTION OF WHAT MRS BATES AND MR CAAN HAVE ALREADY DONE...BLANCHETT WOULD BE EXCELLENT.

reply

how about glenn close.

reply

She's 76 now. It would be a very different dynamic, more like a psycho granny.

reply

I ALSO CAST SAM ROCKWELL IN THE JIMMY CAAN ROLL

reply

Again, for the sake of variety…., I think Blanchett would do very well. I think trying to replace Bates with an actress who resembles her is a mistake.

reply

i don't think annie can be glamourous.

reply

I agree, but have you seen Monster with Theron? It’s not hard to do.

reply

I KIND OF DOUBT EITHER OF YOU CAUGHT THOR RAGNAROK...BUT BLANCHETT WAS TERRIFYING.

reply

Terrifying yes but sexy AF in that leather body suit.

reply

AND THAT IS AN ELEMENT I SEE IN THE "REMAKE"...NO OFFENSE TO KATHY BATES...BUT IT'S AN ELEMENT THE ORIGINAL COULDN'T WORK WITH.

reply

octavia spencer

reply

I like that choice.

reply

YEAH...SHE WOULD BE GOOD...SHE KIND OF ALREADY MADE A MISERY FILM THOUGH...MA IS VERY SIMILAR IN TONE AND THEME.

reply

i saw that movie she was very creepy

reply

Rosamund Pike. She looks nothing like Annie from the original but she has a cold distant look to her. I think she could pull off a lonely super fan who is psychotic

reply

Given her performance in Gone Girl, absolutely!

reply

But then it's almost type casting. She plays these sort of role too often and whenever I see a new movie with her I wonder if she's a cold hearted psycho again or not...

reply

There is absolutely no reason for a remake.

reply

McCarthy might be okay, but there's no reason the character has to be a fat chick, just because the original actress was a fat chick. Besides, there's no reason to remake the movie, anyway.

reply

Laurie Metcalf played Annie on Broadway...with Bruce Willis as Paul.

reply

Why take a shit on this masterpiece by insulting it with a ‘remake’?

reply

It is a great movie, but it wouldn't , technically, be a remake. Just like every Hamlet, Romeo and Juliette, etc. isn' one.

reply

Film and novels are complete artworks. Play scripts are designed to be produced into plays. Apples to oranges.
