Roger Ebert's 4 star review

For years online, he had a 4 star rating for this movie. I'm not sure if that was a mistake or what.

Consider it an "or what"

reply

Is that 4 out of 5 or 4 out of 10?

Not sure what you are trying to say here.

reply

4 out of 4.

reply

OK. So why do you think it was a mistake?

reply

I love this movie seen it countless times. I can't think of one scene I hate.

reply

Sounds like he gave this movie exactly what the movie deserves. What's your problem?

reply

If a critic gave this movie 4 stars when it came out... I'm going to assume he was white, male, and straight.

One of the reasons this movie is so polarizing was that it's very much about white straight men's issues, what they have to deal with and what they wish they could get away with. It doesn't have universal themes.

I'm a white straight male- I never wanted to steal my best friends fathers car, drive it to a big city, sing like a goof in a parade, go to a fancy restaurant and pretend I was important, break my girlfriend out of school to go on a boring adventure to the city with her, and pretend to be sick so I can go on said stupid adventure with my girlfriend, and I don't know anyone other straight white men that set out to do any of those things either. So, having said that, what exactly are the straight white men's issue in this movie, and what exactly are straight white men trying to get away with?
