This 1 plot hole ruins the movie

This is probably the best and most definitive action movie from the 80s. Its very well written and the cast are all great. Unlike others of this genre, the action scenes here are handled more in realism instead of the over the top nonsense from so many others. The script is brilliant and original. However I just noticed something that bothers me. There is no way Bennett could survive that boat explosion in the beginning. He would have been blown to bits. Other than this oversight/plot hole, this movie is perfect. What a shame we never got a sequel

It's not too late for a sequel, John Matrix could get kidnapped, his daughter played by Alyssa Milano (Now a Special Forces colonel) comes out of early retirement to save him from the clutches of an irate Austrian. Rae Dawn Chong could come back for a sidekick role again and I'd be happy to see The Power Station reform for the end credits song.

Thats a great idea. I'd love to see a sequel with Alyssa Milano. I would change the plot a bit though. I'd have Rae Dawn Chong kidnapped by a white supremacy group and they captured Arnold also when he tried to rescue her. But Alyssa Milano comes in and saves both her dad and Rae Dawn Chong from the evil white supremacy group right here in the USA

Oh like a critique of the current year? Much like the original Commando made a bold statement against consumerism with its infamous mall scene. Consumerism and also communism was a concerning talking point throughout the 1980s. Communism would be later tackled in Red Heat.

reply

I'd have Matrix kidnapped by an evil black supremacy group, and Alyssa and Rae save him.

reply

Trump isn't making movies though. Hollywood is

reply

Isn't Hollywood against evil black supremacy groups?

reply

There is no such thing as a black hateful group

reply

The editorial at BuzzFeed definitely fit the bill, back when it still existed

As of December 2019, the Southern Poverty Law Center "lists 144 Black Hebrew Israelite organizations as black separatist hate groups because of their antisemitic and anti-white beliefs".

Check out these guys for an example:

Alyssa Milano is too old to be believable as Matrix's daughter now.

Also be sure to make it clear that the villains are Trump supporters, I mean really drive that in, have them mention their loyalty to Trump in every scene they are in and have them all wear MAGA gear.

Great movie, I've seen it dozens of times. I don't really see that as a plot hole, more like something that stretches believability, but still could technically be possible offscreen. For example he may have set up the boat with an escape hatch he jumped into at the last second, kind of like something that a magician might use to perform a disappearing illusion on stage.

reply

Absolutely! Bennett was resourceful. He was, at one time, a member of The Unit.

Great film. Not a plot hole.

reply

And Matrix's training was at an elite level, Matrix and Bennett could wipe out entire squadrons of soldiers in the blink of an eye.

reply

Yes Miles!

OP- Bennett was a former member of The Unit. He was resourceful.

He jumped off the boat before it detonated.

He swam to shore. End of story.

Commando? REALISTIC???

OMFG!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ohstoppityouresplittingmysides!!!

reply

I meant it as Commando is realistic when compared to the other action movies of the 80s with Stallone, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, etc

reply

I always figured he went overboard just before the explosion. Not a stretch at all.
