How would the Terminator have spent his time after completing the mission?

Would he have tried to settle into society?

He would have walked into the ocean and stayed there until Skynet picked him up.

This is a fine question.

I'd imagine he would protect Mr. Dyson. The Terminator would also inform the scientist (probably covertly) in chip design that would create skynet.

Since the Terminator and Reese already affected the future in unknowable ways (butterfly effect). The Terminator would probably be programmed to insure Skynet development is on track.

They already answer your question in sequel!!!!!!!!!!

Terminator will get marry, he will have a wife and a kid, and run a curtain business.

That's why all the comments here are amateur, they can't be Hollywood writers, profession writers can think something you amateur can't thinking of: Terminator has wife and kid and repair curtain for living.

The question is would the terminator exist after killing Sarah?

I do follow the idea that the whole films or at least the first 2 are a closed loop paradox.

The problem is if the 1st terminator kills Sarah, John is never born, so the terminator hasn't got a reason to go back in time to kill him and thus it can't get destroyed and its parts reverse engineered to create skynet

It would have spent _ITS_ (not his) time by, for example, disappearing.

Yes, that's right. If it was able to complete its mission, it would have ceased to exist and created a time paradox.

Sarah Connor's son is retroactively aborted = no John Connor.

No John Connor = machines win the war.

Machines win the war = no need to send anything back in time to terminate some no-name Sarah Connor.

No need to send anything back = no terminator in 1984.

No terminator in 1984 = Terminator ceases to exist.

-- OF COURSE --

Terminator ceases to exit = Sarah Connor is NOT terminated.

Sarah Connor is NOT terminated = John Connor lives.

John Connor lives = humans win the war

Humans win the war = skynet has to send terminator to 1984

Terminator arrives in 1984 = this movie happens.

So no matter what happens, this movie's events are destined to happen exactly as they did, the terminator CAN'T succeed in its mission.
