Forgot how dark this movie is...

Recently re-watched this in full HD. Not seen it for around a decade. Wow. So so violent. The police station scene massively disturbing and nasty. The first Sarah assassination worse when you notice the children playing in the yard. Ginger's death is also a tough watch. Horrific.

But it is a brilliant piece of cinema. Holds up well nearly forty years later! 🤖

Just about perfect, IMO.

i'd say... after a recent viewing i enjoy this more than T-2..
i KNOW the sequel is better blah blah blah

but the OG is, as you say, dark af man..
it's a different vibe. and a vibe i jive with more these days.

It stands in stark contrast to today's whitewashed PG super hero template. The type where there's lots of violence, but you never see the consequences of the violence. No blood and guts and suffering.

The villains are caricatures, the battles have video game quality to them, and the victims die from non-visible wounds (aside form a few scratches), all while passing away like they're going to sleep after a long day.

In the bygone days of R-rated flicks, you can see the fear and the horror in the victims as they meet their demise, which really draws you into the story and sticks with you for longer after.

Yes its basically a horror slasher movie influenced by the horror/slasher movies of the era: Halloween Friday13 etc and also the R rated dark SciFi genre: Alien, Blade Runner, Mad Max etc

The sequels including T2 are more action movie based (with Salvation being influenced by Transformers and Genisys going more the superhero 'Marvel' route)

Yeah, I read a great article years ago that Terminator was actually a monster movie. It really is a scifi take on the traditional monster horror.

The reboot was better
