Say what you like about Johnny but he was pretty decent when Daniel beat him at the tournament. Can't say he was a sore loser. He walked over to the announcer with the trophy , took it off him with the words "let me" (or something similar) and presented Daniel with it himself, looking very emotional, and said "You're alright LaRusso". It sort of redeemed him, in my eyes anyway. Love that scene.

There is almost always an honor culture in a tuff boy's life. Working with young kids, I've seen situations like that many times, and I think it was one of the most realistic moments in movies. It wasn't about turning good, it was about following that same honor code which he had been following all along: "When the other guy has earned your respect, you need to demonstrate it. Until he does, treat him like a dog."
There usually isn't an honor code in the life of sleazy adults like the coach. So yeah I can see the coach going the way he did. It wasn't unrealistic, just something what we aren't used to.
I normally would not agree with this. But I have to, from personal experience. I had a bully in grade school. And him and his group of friends would bully me, even at dances. But one day in grade 6, leaving school, they came up to me, and I lost it on the main bully, and fought him and got him to the ground and pummeled him. After that he did not bother me. Weeks later, we were in a group together, and he talked about something unrelated to the project, and to the other kids said, he and I were both similar in strength. He never bothered me again, and we were on good terms from then on out. It's an animal kingdom. It sounds cheesy, but if you can show you are not weak, you will gain respect.
ps. Last I heard he was in a gang and is a drug dealer and was a body builder, I would not try to mess with him now.
Creepy. My friend's main bully (who ended up respecting him in a similar fashion) is now dead. Someone tried to mug him and apparently he resisted. I have no sympathy for him, not even right after the shocking news. He robbed people himself and would pressure others to rob for him. He was a criminal since age 14.

Now Karate Kid part 3? Kreese is definitely the villain in that.
I get what you are saying, but no, Kreese is the main villain. Johnny is Daniels nemesis. The man pulling the strings (apparently) and making Johnny the way he is, is Kreese. Hence 'no mercy', 'out of commission' and 'sweep the leg'.

shareMike Barns sure did not do anything to show such good sportsmanship in KK3. I think it would have been cool if Johnny had been in a sequel but as a good guy and a friend of Daniel and Mayagi.
If he had managed to win (if the Crane Kick had failed) I think he STILL would have congratulated Daniel. Daniel no longer had to worry about the bullying once he faced Johnny because he still would have won 2nd place and bullying only works if you are WAY tougher than your opponent. If you are only a little bit tougher the bullying does not really work. Facing Johnny if the fight had happened early in the tournament would not have saved him from the bullying necessarily but he had to beat several people some of them being other kobra kais to get to the final match so just getting there would have ended the bullying problem.
In fact even if his leg could not be fixed he would have been awarded 2nd place. I almost think Mayagi made a major error in judgement allowing Daniel to finish the match because being already broken there is a danger that his leg could suffer permanent damage.
Well just to be clear here, his leg was not broken. It was a muscular injury which Miyagi relieved ( a bit unrealistically) by performing a form of acupressure.
Miyagi said Daniel had already achieved all that was necessary, but as Daniel pointed out if he lost in this way then the bullies still won. This is why Miyagi helps him take place in the final. Not necessarily to win but to face his nemesis Johnny Mano a Mano.

Umm...Johnny lost his cool after Danny poured water on him. He wanted Danny to pay with a beating he'll never forget. It still goes back to the sensei u know. That no mercy crap & teaching people a lesson & stuff. Things got out of hand in that moment is all. I dealt with some bullying when growing up & things got out of a hand a few times when I tried to fight back like when the bully tripped me hard & I hit my head on the step. Teenagers dont think things through in the moment u know. They do stuff out of emotion.

i always find karate kid film disturb in the way daniel treated. i feel this way seeing it as kid, and my opinion not change. he is not bullyed, he brutalized! he driven off cliff on bike. he almost beat to death in gay shower costume (imagine dying dress this way). this film is dark. it is harrowings!
i think fitting end to film of this tone is not tournament, but Danial arming himself with automatic weapon, and blowing away cobra ki gang when they try and kill or handicap him again like they do several time in this movie.
