What enjoyment do you get out of the movies of your childhood as an adult?

I have been think about this a lot lately in terms of the movies I watched a ton as a kid and watch them on occasion as an adult. I enjoy the premise of Ghostbusters as an original film, it has some genuine good scares, and the scene with Ray and Winston talking about about religion in the Ecto-mobile. That is probably my favorite scene in the movie today. What does the board think?

I still enjoy watching the movies from my childhood. My taste has changed a bit but I'm not one of those film snobs that hates anything that's not a drama. For instance I don't feel action films I enjoy should get a lesser rating than One Flew over the cuckoo's nest. I myself prefer good R rated action films from the 80s and 90s to the mainly PG-13 action films of today. Though I do enjoy modern superhero movies.

I love watching the movies that saw me grow up.

I've often thought, if I was going to go, what movie would I want to watch one last time? I think Ghostbusters would be right up there on my shortlist. I'll never grow out of it.

Ghostbusters is still one of my favorite movies of all time. I was just wondering how do you look at the movies of your childhood differently as an adult.

Okay, I'll bite. I was grown up when "Ghostbusters" came out, but I do occasionally watch the Disney movies I saw as a kid.

As an adult, I enjoy the luscious artwork, the silly humor, the music, and the innocence of it all, as well as some darker themes I missed as a child. And occasionally I find that I enjoy a kiddie film more as an adult, like "The Three Caballeros", a bit of Disney fluff from the 1940s. The artwork is not only luscious but downright hallucinogenic in places, plus I never realized as a child that Donald Duck is motivated entirely by greed, lust, and spite. Now that's entertainment!

Sadly none of the Disney movies today will never have any meanings that deep.

Cartoons are MUCH more fun when they include greed, lust, and spite!

Today's kiddies just dont know what great entertainment is.

I watch some of the movies from my childhood for nostalgia's sake. But what really makes me happy is watching my kids watch the movies I loved growing up. Being able to share that experience with them and see them enjoy it for the first time as I did.

Raising your kids on the classics is just as rewarding.
