Is Tony Montana likeable, in your opinion?

Despite being a criminal who does illegal and wrongful deeds including killing other people, maybe even occasionally those who don't always "deserve" it etc, do you find him likeable? Or is he mostly an unlikable antagonist/main villain of the movie and SPOILERS - you probably didn't feel sorry for him getting killed at the end either.

Correct?

reply

I didn't find him likable in any way whatsoever. He got what he deserved at the end.

reply

He is likeable in the sense that he was always true to his word, and also didn't kill women and children. Aside from that, no. He stole Elvira from Lopez and went against the guy who gave him his break. I viewed Lopez as way more likeable, and was hoping he could find a way to squirm out of the situation before he died.

I like Tony in the beginning of the film and loath him by the end.
I still root for him in the final scene though ; )

reply

Yea Tony last stand against the thugs made him seem like good guy protecting his own.

reply

Even when he let one of his guys die while begging to be let in the door?

reply

yeah he never killed those kids

reply

I didn't like him until he said "pelican fly" then I liked him.

If he wasn't likeable on some level he wouldn't be such a mainstay in our culture - his charisma is off the charts, and there's something to be admired about his ruthless rise to the top. He certainly had some scummy attributes though. Killing Manny for instance was unforgivable, but ironically he met his end based on a good deed, not a bad one, by refusing to kill a woman and her kids.

reply

Well, he did offer Ernie a job...

reply

NOPE
