Taboo case file #001

Theory- Social engineering combined with capitalism has deemed certain movies taboo. Random encounters of taboo film with new generations will be limited.

Gross (1982) - $105 million

Year rank (1982) - #5 (#6 Star Trek II, #4 Rocky III)

#post last 3 years -25

#post last 3 years Star Trek II- 217

#post last 3 years Rocky III- 191

Taboo specifics- overt teenage sexual behavior once deemed harmless, now taboo. Female reaction in movie to sexual pranks does not conform with current expected reaction from women.

Offended parties - metoo movement, various women's advocate groups

Strength of case-
(Indicator of movie taboo status)

1)Cannot recall last time randomly encountered on cable (20+ years)

2) High box office rake

3) (opinion) Low nostalgia value (easier to censor w/o blowback)

Weakness of case -

Limited monthly search data

(Taboo status could be confirmed after 12 months of search data)

Cable search (will update monthly)

Jun 2020 - result "no matches"

Netflix USA search (will update monthly)

Jun 2020 - result "no matches"

**Additional possible cause of Taboo status- teen sex movies provide a unwanted stimulation for pedophiles. (Thank you KOW)

It's available on Itunes.

reply

Thank you.

The bluray is still widely available. It had a few funny parts but it wasn't a good movie and neither were the sequels.

reply

Thank you.

I'm more worried about the censoring of the original Revenge of the Nerds.

reply

Very possible.

reply

It's still shown on cable. I watched it two months. Enough with the right wing fear mongering.

reply

For now, Revenge is not taboo.

(Opinion) due to a higher nostalgia value.

Higher nostalgia value = ratings + censorship blowback if removed

reply

"right wing fear mongering"

Wow, I really feel sorry for you. You are entirely incapable of producing an original thought or idea. Come to think of it, maybe you should go out to Hollywood. They love people like you these days.

Interesting results. I always thought it was a very poor mans Animal House.

Other sex comedies of the era that were better.

Animal House
Hot Dog
Up The Creek
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

AH and FTARH are classics.

Really crappy. do they realize the film is very anti-racist? Maybe because it does it in a way that is tasteful and doesn't shove ideals down our throats. Also the men were naked and humiliated too in this...One day cancel culture will cancel the arts out of existence. Then maybe things will start over and get back to normal.

reply

👍 please let me know if you come across this movie randomly or if it's available on another platform (firestick etc, not listed)

reply

I just finished watching it on Showtime 10 minutes ago.

reply

Wow! Thanks,I see it's at 2am though.

reply

I just looked it up, it has only 2 showtimes both 1:15 am and 2:35 am.

Showtime has over 200 movies On demand. Porky's IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

The very late airtimes, only 2 showings and the movie not being available on demand strengthens the case that this movie does indeed have a taboo element.
