HUMOR??

I purchased this movie after reading many great reviews on it. I just sat and watched about 30 min. of it and had to turn it off. Its one of those I'll have to get back to. I guess I just don't quite understand the humor in it. I did however enjoy the more modern "clue" which I guess is somethint like it. I suppose the things that were supposed to be funny to the audience I just thought were stupid. An example would be when the one couple is being shown their room and the butler says something about a fire burning in their room and when they open their door there is a fire in the middle of their bed. Thats a little odd to me. Now remember I only watched 30 minuets of it. I will give the rest a try though.

The hunour is not for everyone. You have to accept the utter ridiculousness of it.

Humor is not for everyone.

You sound like chinese student watching Ryan Higa and not understanding the puns, the references and the subtle visual and aural jokes and themes.

This is that kind of a movie; you have to be familiar with the actors, with the characters, with the references, with whom they parody, with what they parody, and so on, to understand the jokes. Some jokes are simply surreal and absurd, others are situational, then there are so many references and really weird things that are funny exactly because they're something you'd never expect someone to say.

How could you NOT laugh at Wang calling a Moose a cow so casually, or his constant 'fortune cookies' (as the frenchman calls them) that he sometimes doesn't get to finish..

This movie proves that racist jokes are ok.

Yes, I said it. Think about it; if someone made racist jokes about white people, especially heterosexual men, would anyone get offended? I don't think so.

On the same token (no pun intended), all races, cultures and nationalities should be openly and freely insulted and made fun of. Peter Sellers' character could never exist today, but it actually makes fun of the weird racism of casting a white guy to play a 'generally asian' character and doing it in such a insultingly stereotypical and stupid way that it's actually hilarious. Nothing is as funny as a racist joke that actually makes fun of actual racist people, trends, stereotypes, etc.

In any case, this is a funny movie, with many surprises. It's just difficult to endure when hungry, as you feel the hunger of the guests as well.. the villain's anger about Wang's missing pronouns is also hilarious, just by the way.

Both this and Clue were not very funny and actually quite corny.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Personally I thought it was hysterical.

Several people have claimed the humor in this movie is dry and subtle. Actually, it's very broad, often bordering on silly, sometimes crossing that line. But it's still pretty good. It helps if you grew up with the Thin Man, Miss Marple, Poirot, Sam Spade, and Charlie Chan books and/or movies. "The Cheap Detective", a film noir spoof mad a few years later with several of the same cast members, is better.
