Limit your cats to 2 and do not put food outside for strays. Stay engaged with the outside world and invest in longterm care insurance early enough.

It's insurance that will pay for a nursing home or similar care years down the road. I've heard it's rather expensive, and of course it's impossible to know whether or not you will actually need it one day.

Exactly. Resist the urge to become reclusive in the first place, and definitely invest in long term care insurance.

Get up every morning, make the bed, and put on clean clothes. Bathe daily. Get out of the house and move among people frequently. Clean up food spills immediately. Vacuum. Wash windows. Throw out trash and useless junk (at the landfill, not in your yard). Impose a strict limit on your cat population.
