Pretty shitty movie...

And that’s all I have to say about this overrated pile of hippie-scented celluloid.

I do think that it comes alive when Nicholson enters proceedings - a true star-making performance if ever there was one - but the rest is, for me, the very definition of ‘you had to be there at the tine’ cinema. I appreciate its iconic status, even its historic importance, but I found it a slog to sit through.

I was also confused as to its iconic status. Perhaps it's because I am 40+ watching it for the first time in 2019 instead of being 20 and watching it in 1969. I'm sure there is some missing context.

You sound like the rednecks from the diner

I’ll take that as a compliment.

OP is 100 percent correct.

It was moment in time. Definitely dated, but iconic and ground breaking at the time. At the very least it relvoluntized how music is used in movies

I was forced to watch this by a hippy college instructor my freshman year of college back in the early 1980's. Even had to do a report. At least when we had to watch Cool Hand Luke that was tolerable.
