Your logic is faulty.
You say just because a show is repeated many times it is not great, but that the Monkees is considered great because it has been repeated so often. Explain that.
On your second point, few shows that are canceled after two years are syndicated, so there could be shows out there that just couldn't find an audience at the time, that could be popular now. Many shows are canceled for reasons other than popularity.
Third point, Yes. if people like the music or the actors or the special effects,the show could be of interest to viewers. Many people tune in to bad shows and bad movies just because they like the actors. the Monkees having records out and concert tours creates a frenzy that keeps fans interested, and draws in new fans.
Now, I don't mean to be sarcastic, but what is your point? Are you asking why do people like the show 50 years after it first aired, or are you asking from a critics point of view? What makes this show better than other shows from its era?
Other than an Emmy or two, and fans who enjoy a laugh an some nostalgia, no one said the show was one of the best ever.
Also, consider the Munsters and Adams' Family. Both lasted just two years and remained popular for decades. I mentions the Honeymooners in the other post.

if you know that my logic is faulty then you can't ask me to explain what I meant because that would mean that you don't understand what I meant and know that my logic is faulty.
my point is that the monkees is not a great show just on the fact that it's been shown in reruns endless times over 50 years. that quality of a show doesn't make a show great. what makes a show great to everyone, like critics and audiences is if it's on for at least 3 years. now, there are great shows that were on for only 1 season like the ben stiller show on Fox but was the monkees really a great show? I mean it was so silly and immature, it was a kids show right but with adults? and just because a show is considered great by audiences doesn't mean it's a great show critically, survivor anyone? or dancing with the stars?

no, I'm not asking why people like the show 50 years after it first aired, though it does seem odd to me how a show that only aired for 2 years could have become so popular. I'm asking from a critics point of view why on earth could a show that only was on for 2 years be considered by most people as a great show?
ok, ok, the munsters and the addams family have had a great and legendary and lasting legend as have the honeymooners but they are the exception to this rule. so, it's not to say it can't happen that a show only on for 2 or less seasons is a legendary and classic show but just that it extremely rarely happens.

You seem to be saying that a show that only lasts two years can't be good. It's important to note that the show went off the air because the stars and producers wanted to change the format and the network wouldn't let them. It wasn't bad ratings or lack of viewers.
The Monkees was an innovative show. It used music videos, had a rebellious attitude, and a timeless humor. The show appealed to young viewers. When those viewers see it now, it probably reminds them of their carefree youth. It won and Emmy or two, but I don't think anyone has ever listed it as one of the greatest shows ever.

Freaks and Geeks was on for just one season and people(STILL to this day) cream over that like it's the Citizen Kane of dramedies or something.
When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

Then there are shows that stay on for years and far too long that gets watered down, stale and overrated. I can think of a current show that still airs which really should've been gone many years ago.
