With all the injustice against people based on gender these days - is this film more relevant than ever?

Should standing tall and by your fellow man be something we should never have dropped as a society?

reply

True, this is a brilliant movie. and not only that but the related movie Trumbo about the screen-writer and the House on UnAmerican Activities era and how Kubrick got him to write the script for Spartacus.

Oh, it's not just gender-based injustices we need to stand up to! But yeah, the whole backlash against sexual harassment is a great start, a reminder that if people stand together they can do great things and right tremendous wrongs.

This is SUCH a great movie, in spite of its many flaws. I've seen it many times over the decades, and it never fails to enthrall and inspire!

No, Spartacus is certainly not a ‘social justice’ movie despite your best efforts to co-opt it for your cause. SJWs are the Crassus’ of today’s Western world, not the heroes.

reply

I don't think SJWs have a good equivalent in Spartacus. Their stated aims (and, indeed, I think the actual aims of a lot of them, even if they are misguided) are more in-line with Spartacus (help the weak, stop abuse, end oppression), but they pick weird battles and don't actually wind up lining up with the gladiator army's ideals. But they aren't really like Crassus, either.

Frankly, if SJWs paid attention to the story of Spartacus, they might see what oppression really is and reform their actions.

"injustice against people based on gender" is a woke myth.

reply

I know, right. It kills me how people who have corporation after corporation lining up to kiss their asses, who can get people hounded off social media for disagreeing with them, can cost them their jobs in some cases, still try to portray themselves as victims. They are the ones wielding immense cultural power at this moment, and acting for all the world like holy inquisitors busily stamping out heresy, but we are supposed to believe they are the ones being oppressed.

reply

What gender injustice?

Not in the country I live in. What in the hell are you talking about?

Yes it is a libtard spectacle.
