wins the oscar for best actess

for playing tammy faye.

She was fine in the movie but I’d rank her fourth of the nominees. Better than Kidman, at least.

reply

I haven’t seen the film but I did see Spencer and with all due respect I don’t think Stewart deserved a nomination. I like Kristen but I’m glad she didn’t win and I’d totally rate Kidman’s performance over hers.

reply

I was bowled over by Stewart and thought she and Penelope Cruz were ahead of the pack. Kristen’s is certainly a divisive performance though.

Oscar bait role. Colman was the best of the bunch.

reply

I was quietly hoping Colman would win too but I don’t mind that Chastain was awarded. She’s definitely talented and seems like such a sweet, sincere person. I’m happy for her.

reply

She does indeed seem like a great person. I’m hot and cold on her as an actor - I’ve never understood why she has such a following and she’s never blown me away, but I have liked several of her performances (Take Shelter and Molly’s Game especially).

reply

I like when people win for the right reason --ie, they were the best rather than make up calls, or it's about time we give this actor an Oscar. I like Chastain but that kind of project, with a physical transformation, is designed for one thing. Sometimes it's valid, but most of the time, it jumps to the head of the line for that reason alone.

reply

Yeah, fair enough. I stopped caring about the best actor winning when Toni Collette wasn’t even nominated for Hereditary 🤷‍♂️

I’d also add that Jane Campion was far more deserving of the best director award for The Piano rather than Power of the Dog, but that’s the Oscars for you..

reply

She's a good actress but it was soap opera acting. There's an editorial in the Hollywood Reporter on why she shouldn't win.

reply

I agree with this ^. I automatically give less recognition to bio picks.

reply

And she got completely overshadowed, even more than the guy who had to follow Halle Berry's winning freakout all those years ago.

reply

honestly i'd forgotten all about Tammy faye before watching this on HBO, it had me going back & watching Tammy faye clips on Youtube

reply

good performance but not a great movie. would have been better as a tv series.

reply

And in the decades to come, no one will remember this Oscars for her accomplishment or those of the talented people who won awards because will smith couldn’t handle a haircut joke
