HIDALGO, TX (KRGV/CNN) - Patrol agents discovered a tunnel under construction in Hidalgo, Texas that would have gone under the border wall.

The 60-foot long tunnel is reportedly almost impossible to see standing near the Rio Grande River.

That's because it sits at the bottom of a 30-foot embankment, so you can only see it if you're on the river.

Agents said they brought pictures to show President Trump during his recent visit.

"You've seen them on the news in Arizona and New Mexico and stuff like that but I've never seen one in the Valley,” Brand said. “That's the first one I've seen that's in our back yard."

Border Patrol contacted Orthal Brand Jr., president of the Hidalgo County Water Improvement District 3 for help.

"You've seen them on the news in Arizona and New Mexico and stuff like that but I've never seen one in the Valley,” Brand said. “That's the first one I've seen that's in our back yard."

The tunnel is located about 1,500 feet down river from Brand’s pump station on U.S. Parks and Wildlife property.

The construction of the tunnel isn't the only part of the problem, it's located at the bottom of a 30-foot embankment making it almost impossible for Brand to get equipment down there.

“It’s hard for me to put a piece of equipment on an edge of a 30-foot sand cliff and reach down and try to collapse something without putting my own piece of equipment and my own operator at risk," Brand said.

Brand said he, Border Patrol and U.S. Fish and Wildlife will work together to try to find a way to get rid of this shortcut to the Valley.

So about average 8 tunnels/year or one every 6 weeks for the last 28 years.

When Trump says "build a wall, crime will fall" he literally meant it, crime goes underground. :D

But but but Israel built a fence that keeps Egyptians out.

Tunnel is harder than walking across. We have technology to discover them. Finish the wall!

Lol! You are great comic relief, I must say. You’re right up there with the best of the chuckleheads on Fox!

Walls only work when people don't know about them ahead of time. The problem is any wall we build on our southern border will become worldwide news. Anyone looking to cross illegally will be well prepared.

Which will dwindle in the 100s, maybe. How brave do you really think people are? Most people wont jump off their roof, and thats about 8-10 feet up. 15-20 feet up with no soft landing? Good luck with that.

/facepalm

Rope? A ladder? Stack of junk? There are myriad "quick AF ways" to be over pretty much anything they can build that will be viable in the harsh conditions of that part of the world. First off, it can't be too heavy; after a certain point, the laws of physics will....

Ahhhh, fuck it. I'm not going to waste any more of my time trying to reason with the unreasonable.

Your point?

Everything about building a wall against your neighbor in the 21st Century is stupid, and not simply because people can circumvent it. Someone needs to convince that dumbass "businessman" there is a much better use for that amount of dough than building a dumb wall. Seriously.
