Will always hate that he has a stage name

John lennon
Paul McCartney
George Harrison
Ringo Star?????

Firstly, he's not the star of the band, that would be John Lennon, followed by Paul.

Secondly, why draw attention to yourself when you're part of a band? If you're a solo artist, okay, but a band member?

reply

RICHARD STARSKY ADOPTED THE STAGE NAME RINGO STARR 2 BANDS BEFORE BEING INVITED TO JOIN THE BEATLES BY LENNON...HE WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY WELL KNOWN AND IN DEMAND AT THE TIME...

reply

Why would a drummer need a stage name?

reply

I can't answer for that but c'mon, it's possibly the greatest stage name ever!

reply

BASICALLY EX BANDMATES SHORTENED HIS NAMED TO STAR SO THEY COULD CALL HIS SOLO SPOT "STAR TIME"...HE DECIDED TO ADOPT THE STAGE NAME IN FULL TO BE MORE APPEALING TO THE PUBLIC...HE CHOSE RINGO BASED OFF A GOLD RING HE ALWAYS WORE.🙂

reply

Because it's a fun thing to do, and all the Beatles enjoyed fun!

reply

You know, I'd know about Ringo Starr the drummer for about thirty years, before I realized that it was a stage name, and I found out where the stage name came from.

He named himself after characters in cowboy movies, and then became infinitely more famous than the movies themselves. Now, when people watch "Stagecoach" (1939), they wonder why John Wayne's character is named after a Beatle.

reply

Why does it bother you? Many performers, from Tom Jones to Engelbert Humperdinck to Vin Diesel, use stage names. What is the issue with him doing it?

reply

I just stated why. Nobody else in the band has a stage name, therefore it's bizarre that he does.

reply

Nothing bizarre about it, just a fun thing a young man with a sense of humor might do.

reply

It's out of place for a band that had a uniform look when they started out.

reply

Apparently the band didn't think so.

reply

That's the first time I ever heard that criticism. The Liverpool bands of that era often used stage names, and Richard Starkey adopted Ringo Starr (2 Rs) in 1959, 3 years before he joined the Beatles. The other 3 had tentative stage names too, but dropped them. Since Ringo was well established as the top drummer in Liverpool and Hamburg his 3 year old stage name was not changed. The only thing that changed when he joined was he had to get rid of his beard and sideburns. Actually in the movie Hard Day's Night they do use his legal name in one scene. Hope this helps. Happy 80th Ringo!

reply

He was the star of the Beatles.

reply

Paul McCartney's first name is James. So, that's not his real first name, either.

reply

Bloke uses a stage name. So What? Who cares? Can't understand such pointless criticism.
