Her son (17) just killed himself

Render me surprised.

Poor kid. Never had real parents, a complete nutcase of a mother who now has nothing better to do but TWEET about his death. Fucking Hell, your son kills himself and you feel the urge to go on twitter and blubber some pseudo-emotional nonsense so the world can see what a loving mother you were?

Absolutely sickening.

reply

That’s horrible. You really shouldn’t post things like this. Do you really know what their relationship was like?

reply

yup. i've always felt very badly for sinead. she's clearly got horrible problems, really serious issues that she's battled for years.

i don't know all she's been through, but i think it's almost always better to stop & think more about what it would be like to be in her shoes rather than post some really ugly stuff attacking her at what must be her lowest moment in a life of low moments.

reply

Me a year ago:
"Yeah can't make that up, really.

However, it is clear she is tremendously ill and faces demons everyday we perhaps cannot even imagine.
It is easy to shit on her, but in the end, behind all this is a human being with massive issues that made bad decisions in life and now struggles to find its way."

As you can see, I am more empathetic than you wrongly assumed.

My compassion ends, however, when sick people drag others down with them, especially children. If you want to pretend that the mental state her son was in for years had nothing to do with having someone crazy as her as your mother, go ahead.
I prefer to see things as they are.

Nothing I said was wrong. I did not even make any specific claims about their relationship.
I criticized her for going on fucking TWITTER so she can be once more in the spotlight.

Long story short: If something tragic happens in your personal life and your first instinct is to post on twitter or facebook, you're fucked up beyond measure and should be ashamed. She even Tweeted to him after he disappeared. What the fuck is wrong with people and their absurd obsession with social media?

Disgusting.

reply

And you don’t see any hypocrisy in you unloading your thoughts on the internet about it? If you were genuinely disgusted about people using social media platforms to express their emotional state I feel you would have kept it to yourself.

reply

Oh but he's anonymous so his opinion is not his own. It's just venting from his mismatched life and dreams.

reply

Good boy. *slowclap*

here's sinead's tweet that offends you so much for the record.

"My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace:"

i wouldn't use twitter that way myself, and i actually agree that it's probably not a good idea. fine.

i don't think it's a good idea for you to be using message boards to say something awful and ugly about someone who's suffering through the hardest thing a parent can go through. that's a rotten, ugly thing to do, and i think you should be ashamed of yourself.

this is basic golden rule stuff. you wouldn't want someone to hurt you and attack you when you're at your worst. you shouldn't do that to someone else.

don't be a dick.

reply

Very well said.

You do realize that she had him put into a hospital because she felt he was suicidal and he was on suicide watch in the hospital. So no matter how good or bad of a parent she was, she was trying get him help... of course the hospital apparently dropped the ball and allowed him to slip away. So you might want to direct some of the venom to the hospital that failed to do its job in all of this.

reply

That is true. I read a little bit of the tragic news this morning. If he was 17, wouldn't they have to alert mom prior to releasing him. Maybe the laws are different in Ireland,. If that is where he was hospitalized. I admit Sinead has grown strange as the decades roll on, but she is human and lost her child, I believe her only kid. Have compassion.

reply

Rest in peace Shane. I feel very sorry for him.

Wow, are we aiming for new lows on this forum or what?! That’s a really mean, shitty thing to say. So much for common decency.

reply

Some people have no compassion for their fellow man.

reply

Yup. It’s textbook Empathy Deficit Disorder.

reply

as long as i live, i will never ever understand what people like you get out of posting trash like this. i don't know and i don't wanna know.

reply

If her agent had sent out the same exact tweet you'd be fine with it. She is dealing with grief differently than you would which makes it wrong and somehow turns it into attention seeking.

reply

There is nothing joyous about a seventeen year-old taking his own life. Sinead is obviously a tortured artist, hanging by a thread on the best of days, and this will surely cause that thread to break. I was behind her 100% when she called out that bought and paid for "pope", and I am behind her 100% now, for whatever that is worth to her now.

Her son's death killed her. RIP Sinéad O'Connor, Nothing Compares 2 U
