Why is this surprising?

There have always been different rules for people who can buy their way thru life.

Don't tell me you wouldn't do the same if you had the money!

reply

I have the money and I wouldn’t do it.

reply

So you have a few million in the bank and would settle for your kids going to a sub par public school?

Hats off to you.

Most would part with a few bucks.

reply

I was JK. I don’t have the $$ but I wouldn’t do it if I did.

reply

How about your kids getting into school the old fashion way: mommy and daddy make a HUGE donation, and dangle the carrot of future large donations in front of the school. Could even get a building named after you.

reply

Because that would benefit the entire school and not just one selfish low life.

reply

But yes, people buying their way into elite institutions and bypassing entrance requirements is corrupt in any case.

reply

Donation is one of several 'entrance requirements'.

reply

Yes, this old fashioned way works but this scheme was designed as the cheaper alternative.

reply

$500k doesn't seem like a cheaper alternative. And this scheme was way more work than just one meeting with a Dean and writing a check. And that "donation" would be tax write off too. Oh yeah, it's also legal and a little more moral.

reply

Most cases the fee for a better test score was 15K-75K..way cheaper than a donation.

reply

An admissions officer will not publically answer this question, but in my research, I found that Stanford considers development cases to be applicants from families capable of donating $500,000 or more

reply

No, 'this scheme' is not endorsed by the schools, it's only employees etc who benefits.

reply

It isn’t.

It’s just that everyone is hyper-sensitive in 2019 to the stuff they’d usually let slide with celebrities in previous years.

Also, the media is getting bored waiting for another celebrity sex offender to be revealed.

reply

Law enforcement let it slide in previous years?

reply

The most productive people have always been able to consume more(not saying that people with money are more productive)?

reply

Exactly. She just happened to be caught in the wrong time when people are demanding equal rights for the disadvantaged.
