Says intimacy coordinators aren’t necessary

“I have been offered an intimacy coordinator… and I’ve denied them access to the actual scene because I didn’t feel like I needed them. I think the natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it right down to a technical exercise. It would inhibit me more because it’s drawing attention to things.”

Well that's her opinion. I've been working as an intimacy coordinator for many years with talents like Alexandra Daddario, Scarlett Johanson, Christina Hendricks or Gal Gadot and it was always a wonderful experience for both of us.

reply

According to you.

And Gadot needs all the help she can get. She has the acting talent of a petrified plank of wood.

While I’m a fan of the rest, none of them have the talent or understanding of how scenes should be shot like Collette does. So I can understand they’d need someone showing them how to do it, even having sex.

Also, I’ve seen some of your other posts. You’re no intimacy coordinator. 😄

reply

Do you tell them where to place their hands and arms to avoid nudity or is that a directing thing?

reply

As they're almost completely nude, that's more of an issue for the DOP. My job is to get them in the right "mood". We usually meet before shooting in a secluded room, to talk and act through the crucial moments of such a scene.

reply

I always thought it would be intimacy coordinators and directors working together to strategically hide the goods behind trick angles and hand placements.

reply

No. I have sex with them.

reply

Even the male actors?

unfortunately

I have been offered an intimacy coordinator,” the United States of Tara star told IndieWire in an interview. “But I have felt so connected and safe with my creative partners that the intimacy coordinator felt like they were encroaching upon the process, and I’ve denied them access to the actual scene because I didn’t feel like I needed them.”

fixed it for you.

reply

Didn’t need fixing. I posted the main points and the link for people to read more.

reply

You're quite right. I forgot to add the other bit you dropped where she said they were there as a Safety Net - thanks.

reply

For others who can’t stand up for themselves like she does or are less talented so need more direction than she does.

Again, the link is there. Not hiding anything. I also didn’t want to copy and past the entire article here like you did.

reply

It might depend on the era
