If Roman Polanski had stayed in the U.S., what would have likely happened to him?

Would he have carried on with a successful career after possible jail time, or would he have been ruined?

reply

10-15 years in prison!

More like 10 to 15 months. Any ultrastiff sentence by Judge Rittenband would I believe have been challenged successfully by Polanski's lawyers. Regardless, he would have spent time in jail. After that, who knows? He might well have had difficulties restarting his career and ended up moving back to Europe anyway.

He definitely would have moved back to Europe after his sentence. The Europeans are much more sophisticated when it comes to understanding drugging and raping children.

Anything goes in Europe !

Careful how you express yourself. Irony can sometimes goes over even the smartest person's head, and doesn't always translate well to text speak.

LOL, so true! I sometimes give Chatters too much credit. Thanks to you and Porsche at least for getting it.

2 years in prison!

He’d be dead in prison.

reply

Polanski would have spent time in prison; if he survived it, who knows.

reply

He’d move to Alabama, and run for the Senate after seeing the narrow loss of Judge Roy Moore.

reply

A stay in prison.

He had a plea deal in place, but I think Polanski might have blown it by making it clear he didn't have much of any remorse. A youtuber called Dreading did an interesting video on the case. You can see how he really doesn't seem to think he did anything wrong. Considering how unapologetic he is, I'm not surprised other women have come forward and said he did similar things to them when they were teenagers.
