Me!

Hey, the man was funny, likeable, and kinda sexy - everyone liked him! He was always welcome to play the regular guy that got the girl, and was always good and never great.

reply

He had that cheeky prankster edge, but when they removed his edge and started giving him roles where he had to play a cookie cutter character, his career slowed down.

You need Mahoney, that's what he does best. Like Michael J Fox, they do that one thing really well, and lose their mojo when having to go outside the box.

reply

He had a good few years of major popularity during the 80s. People forget that he had one big hit per year between 1984 and 1987 (not including the Police Academy sequels). So, the first Police Academy film, Cocoon, Short Circuit and then Three Men and a Baby (the biggest domestic hit of 1987).

reply

I would agree with that assessment.

reply

The same happened with Phoebe Cates. She played the cool sexpot, like you say, somebody with an edge.

Then she was typecast to play the boring plain girl over and over, then her career went south.
