Finally! The Long Walk is getting made!

New Line are going to make "The Long Walk" into a film. Long overdue imho as this story always would have made an excellent film.

Such a good story but I've always wondered how it would transfer to the big screen. Are they gonna "action it up"? and change the story?

reply

I hope not. It doesn't need it.

reply

I have always thought that this would be the easiest story to film. No big sets and multiple locations. Just a good solid story.
Can't wait to see the cast list!

reply

Definitely should be easy to film, I'm just worried they're going to apply some standard Hollywood movie formula to it to make it more "exciting".

reply

Well, I hope it's as gritty and real as it is in the written story. I also hope that there are NO break away scenes where they decide that they want to show The behind the scenes with the military.
If they stick with the walk and the boys, that is all that is needed.
It can be explained what is going on in the beginning. I hope this one won't be messed up.

reply

I could see the doing some flashback scenes into some of the boys pasts and what led them to participate in the walk.

reply

That would be good. They need a few memories to get them as far as they can!

reply

This is the best news! I have been waiting for this for YEARS! Happy day!!!!!

reply

Isn't it just? It just surprises me that it took so long to get around to making it.

reply

I know what you mean. As I said to the person above, I have always thought that this would be the easiest story to film. No big sets and multiple locations. Just a good solid story.
you would think that someone would have made it years ago. I like to cast the characters while reading a book. I also read books to pieces, countless times. There have been so many cast changes over the years as the actors grew from boys and young men to old men! LOL!

reply

So who would you be casting in your fantasy version?

reply

I have run out of young actors that I know today. I have to think about the fantasy one. Give me a bit of time....
Do you have any ideas?

reply

Well whoever they get to play Stebbins better like jelly sandwiches, that’s all I got to say.

reply

Geez, Margo. . . 6 years! “A bit of time”?!

reply

Bet you a doughnut they will try to turn it into a rabid Liberal horror fantasy allegory about the Trump Presidency.

reply

Enough already! Take this to that Trump Board or some politics site!
We are talking about a good story here! We don't want no stinkin doughnuts here!

reply

I beg your pardon, but it is entirely likely that the story will indeed be corrupted to suit a political agenda currently popular among the Hollywood crowd and Stephen King himself. It is entirely likely that the story only got the green light based on this potential, and it is entirely relevant to discuss it here. I don't believe you have any official capacity to judge what should and should not be posted here so kindly keep such statements to yourself. Thank you.

reply

You're right. I have no right. Once again, another thread where politics enters in.....

reply

Yippie Ki Yay, mother father!

reply

That's one damn long walk then! Five years later and still not done.

reply

To paraphrase another Stephen King story "Long Jaunt, Moonglum9! Longer than you think!"

reply

One of my favorite short stories of his!
