If you have a cold and are congested

DO NOT buy phenylephrine, which is used in many, many OTC cold medications as well as sold by itself and in all these products it is labeled as a "decongestant." It's total bullshit, as concluded by the FDA last fall. They determined that it had no effectiveness as a decongestant--none! (orally, that is. It's somewhat effective as a nasal spray). The real stuff, pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), is sold behind the counter and works great (even gives a little bit of a head buzz--that's why you have to ask for it.) The fact is that with a minor modification it can be converted to methamphetamine. I have no doubt that people are still doing that anyway, but we have to all do our part (in my case by suffering for days before I got wind of how the deal goes down) in the noble "War on Drugs!"

reply

Badger can hook you up with some pseudo, no problem, yo.

I have my connections, thank you though.

Thanks for the tip. I took a look at what I have and it is indeed phenylephrine. Next time I'm at Walgreens or CVS I'll get the real thing.

I purchase Advil Cold & Sinus and I swear by it.. It's basically Advil's version of Heroin and you could totally feel like someone ran over you with a Bus and 1 tablet and 3 hours later, you feel like Superman.. No shit.. You do have to purchase it at the Pharmacy and show I.D and all of that

reply

Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is dangerously addictive. Only use of you can definitely drop it after a week, otherwise it causes your sinuses to inflame unless you keep taking it.

reply

That's bullshit. I read a summary of the FDA report on it and it doesn't say that at all. Why you want to scare people?

reply

No it is not ‘bullshit’. I know from experience, and there are entire online groups dedicated to weaning yourself off Sudafed nasal spray.

Once a person gets clean, they can move to New Zealand and become a bush pilot, while their girlfriend paints the locals castles and shit.

I'm talking about taking it orally. End of convo.

reply

You trust the FDA?

Didn't they authorize the sale of the product that they now say is worthless?

reply

I like to cozy up in a heavy blanket and sleep off a cold. The medicines are all pretty nasty imo.

reply

Thanks, but I don't turn to meds when I've got a cold and am congested, I just pack whatever hot meals I make myself with garlic and hope for the best.

reply

I’ve also heard of garlic being a healing bulb.

And not to go too far out into the weeds but I’ve read that garlic was a big part of the Roman gladiator diet. Something about it being a superfood, it helps ward off infections and colds.
Also, it’s very tasty.

reply

Call me a modern gladiator then, coz a good garlic bread never goes astray when I'm congested and sickly. Sometimes I even start adding a little garlic to dishes when the weather starts getting colder, just to prepare myself for the flu-y hoards of kids I may encounter in the wild.

reply

I realized about a year ago that there are now two Sudafed branded drugs. One you can buy OTC and then the original one that you have to ask the pharmacist for.

Have you ever watch Breaking Bad? Making meth without pseudoephedrine is the premise of the show.

reply

BB is a great show, Better call Saul was excellent as well.

No Crystal for me, I prefer booze and occasionally marijuana.

reply

Yeah, Sudafed wanted a piece of that quack remedy market so they made their own phenylephrine product to sell to the naive public. Ain't capitalism grand!
