Cost of a wedding

I’m currently watching The Catered Affair (1956) with Debbie Reynolds, Betty Davis, Ernest Borgnine and Rod Taylor. It is about Reynold’s and Taylor’s characters getting married and the cost of the wedding going through the roof. They were talking about spending $2,000 for the wedding which is about $23,000 today. I have known people who have spent more.

And then the couple most likely get divorced.

Yeah, money well spent!

Nearly twenty years ago I spent $16K on my wedding, adjusted for inflation the same party would be roughly $20K now! I haggled and made out OK.

$20K is ridiculous! I'm not the prince of Britain but that seems the going cheap rate to tack the papers to the wall.

It's my absolute limit though, I prefer to own property than have a silly party for a day. Frankly, I would have gone MUCH cheaper but my wife had a lot of sway in the conversation, as wives always do. She wanted big flowers and a Dj and a nice Hall...I thought the bit was all too fancy but whatever...just listen to the woman half the time and you'll be fine.

If you are worried about the cost, just tell your wife that you want to get into pegging starting on the wedding night. She will not broach the marriage subject again.

HAHA, who would:)

Gross the lady out and save some money!

I got married in 1983. The justice of the peace married us for $40 plus the cost for the marriage license and blood test. Fancy weddings are a huge waste of money.

Yeah, weddings can be fun for the guests but they're certainly a scam for whoever's paying.
