Well, with the right frame of mind, it is a classic - in other words, set your corn meter to high and just accept some of the horrible acting and just go with the atmosphere of an old-timey Christmas show.

Perfect description. It was the pilot for The Walton’s tv show and some of the actors were replaced for the series. I have the DVD too.
