Youtube Premium: is it worth it for you?

not having ads and being able to have the audio play with screen off while driving is a gamechanger for me. the small fee is such a quality of life improvement given how much i watch it and saved me hours and hours

LISTENING TO YOUTUBE WHILE YOU DRIVE IS A GAMECHANGER?...WHAT KIND OF SILLY ASS GAME DO YOU PLAY?

reply

Bat probably just doesn't have unlimited data.

Do the channel creators get a cut of the subscription fee? I would be interested in being able to subscribe to individual channels to stop the ads but would prefer the content creators of those channels to get a big cut.

reply

according to google who owns youtube yes

"Yes. In fact, YouTube Premium gives a secondary revenue stream for creators in addition to what you're already earning today through ads. "

reply

Absolutely!

I laughed at my work colleague about paying to skip a 5 second ad, but I tried the month free trial and never went back.

Definitely recommend 10/10 👌

reply

well i remember while most ads were, some ads werent skippable.

plus for the small fee and given how much i use youtube, it certainly is a big enough quality of life improvement to justify the fee.

reply

I've had it since it rolled out and I agree, it is totally worth it. I can't see going back to using YouTube with all those stupid ads.

reply

No, it wouldn't be. I don't watch very much on YouTube anyway -- and when I do it's usually through a browser on a laptop with an ad blocker. As memory serves, I've never seen an advert on YouTube.

reply

Same here. uBlock is a godsend.

reply

do you get any extra content?

reply

You get YouTube Music with it.

reply

You can download the videos so you can watch them without an Internet connection and play with phone screen off if you're just listening, to save battery.

reply

Definitely worth it. It is the only subscription service for online media that I feel is worth paying for. But then again YouTube has totally replaced lineair television for me.

reply

Same, it's 90% of the only tv I watch now. I haven't watched scheduled TV since the start of lockdown.

With YouTube premium can you make playlist with anything found on YouTube and without commercials?

I ask this because I use Spotify to stream music playlist in the car and at work. My problem is a large portion of my favorite songs aren’t offered on Spotify, or if they are it’s the wrong version. Everything I like is on YouTube though.
