Alec Baldwin charges dropped

There are still civil suits out there (one was settled already) but criminal charges for him never made any sense to me.

Oh, so he's free to resume shooting.

reply

Dammit Fred, this post made me laugh and immediately feel bad for doing so!

reply

That's what I'm here for! ;->

You hit that one dead center.

reply

He definitely killed it

Bullseye 🎯

reply

"Rich white guy beats murder charge."

I'm looking forward to the street protests.

reply

Not surprised. The most important elements of a criminal case are fame and money. I can't imagine accidently killing someone and then taking selfie pics and posting them on social media once charges are dropped. Have some humility.

reply

The selfie was dumb and so was giving media interviews while they were still investigating, although it appears that he may have been telling the truth:

The development came after prosecutors received new information in the case — that Baldwin’s prop gun had been modified before being delivered to the low-budget western in October 2021, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment.

The replica of the vintage weapon — a Colt .45 revolver — had been modified , increasing the odds that the gun might have misfired, as Baldwin has said, according to the sources.

The industry really needs to put together and adopt a global firearms safety protocol. I never thought this could happen again after the Brandon Lee tragedy.

reply

Yeah I read that too. Didn't the FBI look at the gun early on and say the trigger had to be pulled? Seems like there is some conflicting information as one group of "experts" say it was pulled and the other says it malfunctioned.

reply

The FBI may not be wrong, but prosecutors have a higher bar to clear than investigators and they have to interpret evidence against that standard. It seems that Baldwin is not totally off the hook anyway, because another article I read indicated that the DA is continuing to investigate.

reply

Lol well no, but wouldn't be the first time a special investigator is wrong too. I'm just saying it looks like you have experts on both sides with different opinions.

I find it hard to believe they'll get anything criminal on him. This will all be hushed up in civil court which I think he already settled the biggest suit.
