Who is an actor, where no matter how bad the movie is, they are still great in it?

I could name several, but I have liked Willem Dafoe in every movie I've seen him in, regardless of if I didnt like the overall movie.

I wanna add Elias Koteas. He's been good in everything I've seen him in and yet not enough recognition as others.

Daniel von Bargen is another actor no one mentioned yet who is great in everything I've seen him in!
I remember him the most from Malcolm in the Middle, but was always pleased with his performances

reply

Brandon Lee. He was in a few low-budget, badly-written movies but he shined in all of them. He had his father's (Bruce Lee) charisma and did plenty of improvisation (I assume).

reply

I HAVE ONE WITH HIM... LASER SOMETHING...HAVE YET TO WATCH IT...HAS THE WORST COVER ART I HAVE EVER SEEN.

reply

I saw that one. I can't remember much about it except it was really, really, really bad, but I liked him and the two buffoonish soldiers in it. I can't believe you bought it. He ad libs funny one liners in his movies.

I own The Crow. That's a great film. I also like Rapid Fire.

reply

I AM KNOWN TO BUY AND WATCH AMOST ANYTHING...I HAVE BOTH THE CROW AND RAPID FIRE...GOOD FLICKS.

reply

Only seen him in the Crow and he was great, I need to wathc another movie with him in it.

Jason Scott Lee has been awesome in every movie Ive seen him in!

reply

Do you mean Brandon Lee? Rapid Fire is good.

Jason Scott Lee played Bruce Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. That's one of my favorite movies.

reply

I mean watch another movie with Brandon Lee as the Crow was the only one I've seen.

Jason Scott Lee is a relative of Bruce Lee (I thought) and part of the reason he portrayed Bruce Lee in The Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. He has charisma and has played a range of characters. I first saw him as Mowgli http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/36200000/The-Jungle-Book-1994-image-the-jungle-book-1994-36224156-580-901.jpg and yet he also played Cain on the movie Soldier https://www.writeups.org/wp-content/uploads/Caine-Soldier-Jason-Scott-Lee.jpg a villain to Kurt Russell of course https://i.pinimg.com/736x/93/7a/62/937a6252dbde1f305dc46428ab1677d3--kurt-russell-jason-scott-lee.jpg

Dragon is a good movie. I especially liked that Lee fought that dark vision within his dreams.

reply

I've seen a few of Brandon's movies. Rapid Fire is good. I liked the Kung Fu TV movie, also. But, The Crow is his best.

Jason isn't related to Bruce. I saw him in Map of the Human Heart, but then he disappeared for a long time. The Wind and Reckoning looks interesting. That movie's in mainly Hawaiian.

reply

I just looked up his IMDb and sure enough it states "Despite the same surname, he is not related to Bruce Lee who he played in the Dragon: A Bruce Lee Story".

I've seen him in enough movies to recognize him and remember his name. He even played Aladdin in the miniseries movie Arabian Nights!

I like him as an actor : )

Im surprised he grew up in Hawaii.

reply

He's part Hawaiian.

I like him as an actor too which is the reason I was angry when his career appeared to go nowhere after Dragon and Jungle Book. He's more active now.

reply

Ive seen him in many things after those two movies though? You mean as a leading man right? He's had many supporting roles!

reply

After Jungle Book, he disappeared for a few years: ex. 1994-98. I see he was in some direct-to-video movies. Were they supporting roles or minor roles? I hoped his career would've been more successful.

Now, I really want to see The Wind & the Reckoning. The reviews are good!

reply

Warren Oates
Harry Dean Stanton

reply

Harry Dean Stanton is great! I recognized his face as soon as I saw him. Been in plenty of movies I liked! Good character actor

reply

Christian Bale
Florence Pugh
Oscar Isaac
Daniel Day Lewis
Ralph Fiennes
Kate Winslet
Gary Oldman
Frances McDormand

reply

All of those are solid choices! I feel I shouldve thought of Christian Bale and Gary Oldman!

If you havent seen Operation Finale starring Oscar Issac and Ben Kingsley you oughta give it a watch!

Aslo I could add Ben Kingsley to the list. He's been good in every movie Ive seen him in.

reply

Nick Cage has made some stinkers but tends to be entertaining regardless. Stallone can be the same.

reply

I agree about Nick Cage. I love when he over emotes and shouts which he does in half his roles. The guy is a prize. You can’t take your eyes off him!
His Wicker Man remake is one of the funniest things I’ve seen😀

Stallone is a good pick as well.
He’s been in a few lousy movies but he certainly has charisma.

reply

I recently bought Vampires Kiss from Dollar Tree of all places! I am excited to watch it but havent gotten to it just yet : )

reply

I love overwrought Cage! I am never sure if he is parodying himself or that is really how he thinks the roles should be performed.

Stallone always comes across as genuine even if the film sucks, I can sense that he believes that the project at least started off as worthy.

reply

I really enjoy the Rambo movies even if they did become a bit silly at some point, yet I thought Stallone gave a very good performance in First Blood.

He was a beaten down Vet, obviously suffering from PTSD and he was not looking for any hassles but ‘The Man’ pushed him anyway.
Then he gave the whole town hell!
Great story.

First Blood was also an excellent novel written by David Morrel, I’ve read it three times.
The gist of the story is the same as the movie but many changes were made in the script.
It all ends quite differently in the novel, check it out👍

Stallone is a good example of a person who gave it his all to achieve his dreams. And that it paid off makes me proud. I like seeing people succeed. He is probably humble because of how hard he had to work to get where he is AND hasnt forgetten it! Compared to Arnold (the famous friendly rivarly) Stallone doesnt seem like he has a huge ego. Stallone is macho, but without being an asshole. From what I can see.

reply

I like Nicolas Cage and I have watched movies just because he's in them. Stallone is great! Funnily enough people make fun of his voice (much like they did Arnold) but there was one time I was watching Rambo (2008) and I had to cut on subtitles because I really couldnt understand him in some scenes XDDD

Whats you favorite Nicolas Cage movie? Mine is Lord of War

reply

Stallone's voice and demeanor pretty much set him up for having to succeed alone I think. He was never going to be the leading man type or be courted by Hollywood.

Cage's 90's Action films are fun as well as Leaving Las Vegas, for nice guy Cage there is It Could Happen to You.

reply

I bought Leaving Las Vegas, but havent watched it yet. I'll have to look into the other one.

Yeah Stallone was adamant about his acting, he wouldnt budge and took a huge pay cut in order to star in his own Rocky screenplay and not just be a writer.

reply

Leaving Las Vegas is excellent but pretty sad, I’d compare it to Requiem For A Dream in terms of the feeling that ‘Holy Shit, that was depressing!!!’

Maybe watch a great comedy immediately after as a mood changer.

reply

Thank you for the warning, I will keep that in mind when I go to watch it. And I'll be sure to not watch it right before bed.

reply

I'm a bit biased when it comes to Leaving Las Vegas as I have the hots for Elisabeth Shue who gets quite raunchy in it. But yes it is a depressing film with the exception of Shue's boobs.

reply

CON FUCKING AIR!

reply

Put…the bunny…BACK in the box!

Fun movie, terrific cast.

Humphrey Bogart.

Classic choice!

The younger pics of Scott Wilson kinda remind me of James Caan!

Brolin brings it! Also after rewatching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and feeling bittersweet about its ending, I was more than happy to see Dillahunt show up as a regular cast member in Fear the Walking Dead https://youtu.be/8FTLOsxWHMc?t=59

reply

Gary Oldman has given great performance no matter how lame story agree on Willem Defoe alway great many other like Newman and Redford bring characters alive not just playing same role no matter what film

reply

They seem to really bring forth this kind of change, where even though they are Gary Oldman or Willem Dafoe, you still forget them and they become the character. Whereas someone like Tom Cruise (No matter how much I like him as an A-Lister) he seems like "Tom Cruise playing a character" Daniel Day Lewis is another good example of someone who transcends their A-List namesake and can make you believe the character. I'd even throw Benicio Del Toro in there too!

Also Redford is part of the reason Captain America Winter Soldier was so good. He brought his charctr to life.

He starred together with Nick Nolte in a film where two old guys decide to hike the Appalachian Trail and it was quite fun movie xD

Denzel Washington

reply

Good Choice. Whats your favorite of his movies? Its a tough choice for me, but I like Fallen https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119099/

reply

Hmm...hard to say. It's actually been a while since I seen a movie of his. I would say Training Day but he's not much of a good guy in that one. I'd say some of his action thriller movies in the 90s - 2000s....

Which reminds me, I gotta rewatch his movies!

reply

I also really liked Virtuosity, where Denzel starred opposite Russel Crowe.
