What about the People of Costco?

A lot of those folks dress like they rolled out of bed, it's not just walmart. The other day I saw a couple of gym enthusiasts, guy and girl, who obviously hit up the gym. I thought it was hilarious that they were wearing matching black leggings. Is that something straight ripped guys do normally?

reply

Straight ripped guys don't care about what they wear.

reply

I'll have to ask if they bought their his and her leggings from Victoria's Secret, lol.

reply

More uncouth behavior. These are people who take no pride in their grooming or appearance. I was at Costco a couple of weeks ago and saw plenty of slovenly attire and trashy tattoos. This included some of the employees.

Society continues to devolve.

reply

I'M WITH YOU ON THE WAY PEOPLE DRESS...BUT I STILL DON'T SEE TATTOOS AS DEVOLVING...THEY ARE A TRADITION ALMOST AS OLD AS OUR SPECIES AND INVOLVE ARTISTIC TALENT AND PERSONAL EXPRESSION.

HAIR IS A BIG ONE FOR ME...PEOPLE WITH FILTHY,UNCOMBED OR "MESSY" STYLES.

reply

True. Traditional people in Borneo have tattoos, even the grandmas. Tattoos are not devolving, they're evolving.

reply

Engaging in a Stone Age practice in the 21st Century is devolution.

reply

Old doesn't mean bad. I mean, we still eat, shit, take a bath, walk, run, have sex, dance, hunt, etc. since the dawn of time, right? Not everything has to be "progressive."

reply

Obviously we still eat, but hopefully we implement good manners when doing so in public rather than gulping down food like some animal. The same with our other biological functions... we use toilets, bathe regularly and maintain good hygiene.

Getting a trashy tattoo serves no purpose; there is no medicinal or health value; injecting a foreign substance under the skin is unnatural and unhealthy. Read about Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman, who ended up on the injured list due to infections from getting a sleazy tattoo:
https://www.mlb.com/news/aroldis-chapman-leg-tattoo-infection-injured-list

And I will repeat it again: the procedure causes permanently marring of the skin. Why would someone do this to themselves? Do they have self-loathing or low self-esteem, to the point where they want to inflict permanent damage to their bodies?

I have asked the question "why do people get tattoos?" multiple times in the past on different forums and have yet to receive a legitimate answer.

reply

I don't have any tattoos. People get them because it gives you the bad boy image and raises your sex appeal. I don't have any tattoos because it's a money hole. You put money in and it's gone forever.

reply

"People get them because it gives you the bad boy image and raises your sex appeal."

Not a legitimate reason, either.

Why cultivate a "bad boy" image? We should be aspiring towards something higher.

Sex appeal? When I see a woman who has marred her body with sleazy tattoos, it's an automatic deal-breaker.

reply

I applaud you trying to elevate humans, but you're the minority. For the vast majority of women, a guy with no tattoos is a turn off.

reply

"For the vast majority of women, a guy with no tattoos is a turn off."

Seriously? In what bizarro dimension would women think men with mutilated skin are attractive? These people (both the men and the women) should seek professional help.

I wouldn't call it a "vast majority," either. I would be willing to bet the real numbers are fairly low.

Yes. I've read about the practice of tattooing existing as far back as the Neolithic period. One example is the "Ă–tzi the Iceman" mummy found in the Alps.

This is the 21st Century and we should be moving forward, not engaging in Stone Age practices. That's why I define this as devolving. And it involves permanent marring of the skin, which makes it a destructive procedure, not "art." There are many ways a person can "express" oneself that are not harmful.

reply

SKIN GETS OLD AND WRINKLED...SKIN DIES...LIFE IS FLEETING...ENJOY THE RIDE...DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY...DECORATE YOURSELF AND SHOW OFF...WHAT YOU CALL DEVOLVING I CALL TRADITION...TRADITION IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SEPERATES US FROM ANIMALS.

reply

You can "DECORATE YOURSELF" in positive ways like working out, maintaining good health, taking pride in ones appearance and conducting oneself in a civilized manner when in public.

reply

TRUE...BUT SO IS WHAT I SAID...YOU DON'T LIKE TATTOOS...THAT'S FINE...HOWEVER...YOUR INSISTANCE ON REPEATEDLY CALLING PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE THEM TRASHY IS FAIRLY FAR FROM CIVILIZED,MY FRIEND.🙂

reply

I said tattoos are trashy. Where in any of my posts did I say a person was trashy? What I am doing is questioning what goes on in the minds of someone who would do permanent damage to themselves. My goal is to dissuade people from doing something that they will regret later. I am especially concerned that kids are seeing this stuff.

reply

WHATEVER..THAT'S SEMANTICS...POINT BEING...YOU ARE BEING A DICK ABOUT THIS...WARN PEOPLE ALL YOU LIKE...BUT YOU POST REPEATEDLY ABOUT UNCOUTH PEOPLE AND THEIR TRASHY TATTOOS...WHICH ARE ON THEM SO ACTUALLY YOU ARE SAYING PEOPLE ARE TRASHY BECAUSE THEY ARE ADORNED WITH TRASHY...COME ON...BE NICE,PLEASE...I'LL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND.🙂

reply

I said uncouth behavior. Why can't these people act civilized and take some pride in their appearances?

I have no animosity towards you, nor am I posting to "be a dick." I am concerned about the direction our society is headed. My messages are intended to educate and hopefully persuade at least a few people not to engage in practices that they will regret years from now.

I didn't start this thread; I merely responded to it. Maybe you should have a talk with the O.P.

reply

I would say there are many other things going on with todays youth that should be more concerning than something as trivial as a tattoo. They are accepted in todays modern society.

reply

I will again repeat what I have already said multiple times: permanent marring of the skin. This is serious stuff.

"Modern society"...? Engaging in a destructive practice that goes back to at least the Neolithic period isn't "modern." We should be moving forward, not regressing.

reply

SERIOUS STUFF?..IF THAT IS AN ISSUE FOR YOU...TRY RALLYING AGAINST BOTOX,PLASTIC SURGERY,CIGARETTES,ALCOHOL,BURGERS,CELLPHONES,MENTAL ILLNESS,ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS,DRAG RACING,ILLEGAL DRUGS,LEGAL DRUGS,SUGAR,FAT,CAFFEINE,ANOREXIA,BULLEMIA,THE SUN,INTERNET RELATIONSHIPS,USING YOUR COMPUTER ENCOURAGES FAT AS DISEASE, AND 14 THOUSAND THINGS I DID NOT THINK OF...

ON THEIR WORST DAY...TATTOOS ARE SAFER AND SANER THAN THAT ENTIRE LIST.

YOU DO NOT LIKE TATTOOS...WE GET IT...THAT IS YOUR ONLY VALID POINT.

reply

I agree with your list, especially the "BOTOX" and "PLASTIC SURGERY" parts. There is no reason to have Botox treatments; and a majority (not all) of plastic surgery is purely elective, undergone for shallow reasons (wanting to look like a celebrity, etc.).

We should not be modifying or destroying our bodies.

reply

Ok, with all of these other social ills that are proven to damage lives and communities, why are you picking tattoos as the hill to die on? Is there any study that has linked tattoos to anything as damaging as what is included on Kowalski’s list?

reply

It's another symptom of our regressing society.

As recently as five years ago, you rarely saw anyone with a tattoo, and when you did, it was usually something small and fairly inconspicuous. Now you can't go anywhere, including places like banks or doctors' offices, without seeing seeing this nonsense. And these are people with their entire arms covered with this sleaze, and sometimes their necks, too. These are supposed to be professionals but that's not the image they are presenting.

There is no valid reason to get a tattoo; this is just more sheep-like behavior. I'm sure this started with some celebrity or pro athlete sporting a trashy tattoo, then those incapable of thinking for themselves had to emulate this, thinking it made them look "cool" because they were copying what some "star" did. Soon there is the snowball effect and the practice spreads. Look at any pro team today and you are seeing an increase in this, which is sad because kids idolize sports figures and are watching this.

Read about Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman ending up on the injured list all because of a ridiculous tattoo:
https://www.si.com/mlb/2022/08/28/aroldis-chapman-aaron-boone-yankees-relief-pitcher-il-infection-from-tattoo
So was it worth it?

It saddens me to see an attractive woman destroy her looks because she has been brainwashed (often by the social media) into thinking this is acceptable. It's a deal-breaker for me.

There have been ridiculous fashion trends throughout history, but for the most part they were harmless; silly haircuts would grow out and clownish clothing could be sent to the thrift store. This tattoo garbage has crossed the line into damaging territory. I don't know how many times I must repeat this: you are talking about permanent marring of the skin here.

Engaging in a Neolithic practice has no place in the 21st Century.

BTW - I make these posts because I'm concerned and have a desire to educate, not to "be a dick" as Kowalski was accusing me. Hopefully I can dissuade at least some people from doing something they will regret later.

I do not understand the appeal of Cosco. I had a membership there when the grocery store workers were on strike circa 2004. There were a handful, and I mean less than 5 items I found where the value at Cosco was better than Kroger and Safeway. But I still had to go into that hell hole and buy a shitload of stuff that would take me a month to eat.

reply

The impression I get of Costco is that it's trying to target the shallow yuppie/hipster trend chasers. I see a lot of food-fad items on their shelves that I wouldn't waste my money on. And it doesn't pay to buy in bulk for just one person.

reply

Kroger is a weird name. Kroger...

reply

The people of stupid unite!

reply

The Costcoian people have a very deep and proud culture.
