shareYep. It's not blackness, or "nothingness." Those are both perceptions. There are no perceptions when you're not alive, and don't exist.
shareI don't remember anything before I was at least 2. But I'm pretty sure many things happen between the day I was born to when I was 2 years old.
Remember nothing doesn't mean that there were actually nothing happening.
Right, but you still had perception before you were two, as a live baby, even if you can't remember your perceptions now. You even had perception at least part of the time when you were in your mother's womb, before birth.
What Thaisticks was illustrating, is the fact that you had no perception of anything ten years before you were born, for example. Why? Because you literally didn't exist yet. And that is probably what it is like after you die, and once again cease to exist or have perception of anything.
We know that we had perception when we were 0 to 2 years old only because we observe other people. Because we literally see babies having perceptions.
But imagine a baby, born, and after 2 years it died. From the baby's prespective it does not remember at all. Outsiders obviously can see the baby was alive from 0 to 2 years old. But for the the baby itself, it would think it never existed. It does not remember that we remember about it.
For us, we can't possibly observe anyone before they were born. Therefore we simply don't know. We can not know what happened before we were born because we can't possibly remember anything about it AND there are no outsider observers that we could possibly know either.
But imagine if (philosophically) there is an outsider observer that can see the moment before we were born, he would know what was happening.
Or maybe indeed nothing is happening.
My point was that the fact that we don't remember anything does not mean we can be sure that nothing was actually happening. We simply can't possibly know.
