I would say it was a pretty good year, some great films, some weaker films. My top 10:

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. The Thin Red Line
3. Rushmore
4. Following
5. Lola Rennt
6. American History X
7. Mulan
8. Deep Impact
9. Armageddon
10. The Faculty

Personally, I think Shakespeare in Love and Truman Show are highly overrated.

the thin red line is one of my many blind spots. i've been toying with watching it (it was on disney plus the last time i looked) but holy cow, that running time is just a bit much for me.

but i'm leaning towards watching it after revisiting days of heaven last month and absolutely loving it (i'd been a bit indifferent to it in the past). not that i think they're the same kinda movies or anything...but i'm feeling a bit more open to the malick experience after that.

I definitely recommend it. The Thin Red Line is a masterpiece and one of the greatest films of all time, in my opinion. It is an absolute must see and a very rewarding film.

i'm planning on taking a few days off soon, so maybe i'll try it one morning when i'm feeling sharp & properly focused.
