Fast Times at Ridgemont High New Criterion Edition

For my money, the best high school movie ever made.

From Yahoo...
It's amazing to think now that there was once a time when Sean Penn and Forest Whitaker made comedies. And that Phoebe Cates made movies at all. So it's hard to imagine there will ever be a class reunion for Amy Heckerling's 1982 raunchy teen classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but we have been gifted the next best thing: a re-release from the tastemakers at the Criterion Collection. The comedy staple returns with a kickass new cover and a newly restored 4K digital transfer with bonus features, including audio commentary, a television version from the '80s that includes deleted scenes, a 1999 doc with cast interviews, and a brand new discussion with Heckerling and writer Cameron Crowe moderated by Booksmart director Olivia Wilde (which you can tell is new because it's captured on Zoom).

Haven't seen for ages. It was disappointing for me at the time, because I didn't find it as amusing or as fun raunchy as Porky's - 81'. I was expecting similar. The film grew on me though and since it was contemporary at the time, it is now a terrific 80's blast from the past with a great cast.

I do find it interesting that it was forced to have MPAA censorship cuts to avoid an X rating, (male nudity I believe), when Porky's got away with this in a couple of scenes. Typical MPAA hypocritical standards.

I wonder how many sex scenes was left on the cutting room floor and will they add it all back. Shouldn't there be a JJL blowjob scene where she attempts to swallow?

While I was definitely tempted to buy the Criterion Collection edition Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the fact remains that I had already purchased the Blu-ray of this film in November of last year.

In addition to the film, my Blu-ray contains the following bonus features ...
"Reliving Our Fast Times at Ridgemont High - a hilarious documentary featuring interviews with cast and crew
"Feature Commentary with Director Amy Heckerling and Screenwriter Cameron Crowe
"Theatrical Trailer
"U-CONTROL Scene Companion - watch behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, bios and more during key scenes with this picture-in-picture companion
"U-CONTROL The Music of Fast Times at Ridgemont High - instantly identify the songs heard while watching the film, create a custom playlist of your favorites and even purchase them from iTunes!"

So although I enjoy Criterion Collection films, I just can't see investing an additional $27.99 for a film I already own despite the possibility of some additional bonus features that my Blu-ray might not have.

I had just finished my junior year in high school when this movie came out. My favorite line was when Spicoli tells his friend that he can fix his brother’s totaled Camaro because his dad was a TV repairman and had an “ultimate set of tools”. My dad fixed TVs so it was the perfect line for me.

I love the way Penn delivered that line. Shame he didn't go on to make more comedies because he was so good in Fast Times.

I wanted to like it but the humor never really worked for me. Phoebe Cates was easily the best part of it.
