Help to identify japanese film from plot

Hi there,

I saw a japanese film a few years ago and I can’t remember the name or the director. It’s in black and white, probably from the 50’s. A married guy has a lover, and when the wife finds out, she becomes terribly affected. She is admitted to a mental institution because she is not able to cope, and he follows her and stays in the hospital together with her.
I recall (but may be wrong) that it was loosely autobiographical.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Thanks!

Perhaps not the right forum for this question?

Very few people here watch Asian movies, even less old Japanese movies.

I see. I’ll try somewhere else then. Thanks!

I watch a ton of Asian films and I highly recommend them.

I know Japanese cinema better than most, and based on your description all signs point to Robot in the Family (1993).

reply

It’s not Asian Babes Vol. VIII

The only Japanese black and white movie about an institution I can think of is A Page of Madness, but it's a silent from the 20s.

The only Japanese movies I am familiar with all star Godzilla.
